Cosy hotel, beautiful views, yummy breakfast and very welcoming laid back family

On our first night we discovered that the room had no light bulbs. The next morning we requested light bulbs from the owner. She told us 'americans must have taken them'. What a ridiculous statement - tourists come to Amsterdam to take breakable light bulbs so that they can carry them around on the rest of their trips. And even if americans did take them, why didn't housekeeping notice the missing bulbs when they cleaned? Later that night, still no bulbs. The following morning we noticed a plastic bag hanging on coat hook near the breakfast room with light bulbs in it - they expected us to replace them and didn't even bother to tell us. When we asked for cozy nearby restaurant recommendation, she directed us to a directed to a nearby street that was nothing but restaurants. We got the general feeling that hotel guests were an annoyance to the owners and they did the minimum to get by.

This is a wonderful hotel, right in one of the most beautiful streets in Amsterdam. The hotel is in walking distance to most of the major sights and a short streetcar ride from the main station. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and charming. I can recommend this hotel to everyone, who is vacationing in Amsterdam and wants to escape the impersonality of most hotels.

My wife and I spent an enjoyable 5 nights here. Location is excellent, great restaurants, shopping and museums all within easy walking distance. Great breakfasts and very friendly and helpful staff. Hotel is full of character. We stayed in the John Wayne room on the top (4th floor) which was really spacious with great views - you can see the Rijkmuseum from it. We would certainly stay here again.
