“dirty-not two stars, maybe 1/2”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I should have guessed what I would get for the price, but I paid for the room before looking at it, then saw that the bedsheets were dirty and the mattress really dirty, so I said I wanted to leave and could I have a refund, and they said no. I didn't care- I left anyway. The whole placed was dirty and smelled like smoke. Only stay here if you absolutely have to.

“Bed bugs!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

That was the worst place I've ever stayed during my Europe trips. Smelly bathroom, dirty stairs and carpets and the worst thing - bed bugs! Do not stay in this place!

“Beware of bed bugs!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

This place was horrible. My traveling partner booked the reservations and only after did we find out the terrible reviews. It was as bad as it sounds. We had booked a double room but when we checked in, were informed that it was unavailable and they moved us to a quad with single beds in the attic. In the night, we heard rodents scurrying around, evidenced by the fact that they gnawed through a cardboard box to get to a chocolate bar I had in my luggage. We were able to move rooms the next day, but this was probably worse. The third day, after drying off with a tiny face towel b/c there were no decent sized bath towels, I noticed something crawling on our bed. It was a bed bug! I found another one, killed them both and saved them in a plastic bag to present to the reception. Upon further inspection of the bed, I noticed several small bloodstains around the sides of the mattress, leading me to believe these weren't the only bed bugs in the place. We left and were refunded the portion of our stay that we didn't use. The rest of place was filthy. I don't know if it had been dusted in the last 10 years and the beds were all sunken in and uncomfortable. It's worth the extra money to not stay in this nasty hotel! The tram system in Amsterdam means it's really easy to stay a little further out of the centraal area and avoid being covered in bites.

Room Tip: Top floors have less bed bugs but more rodents. You choose.

“VERY AVERAGE”

After reading all the bad reviews I wanted to cancel my booking. I contacted my travel agency, but I was told I couldn't cancel it because it was a non-refundable booking. I decided to go to Yboulevard hotel anyway. Upon arrival the hotel looked not bad. The lobby was very crowded and it took a while before I could do my check-in. The man behind the reception was nice. I told him I was afraid because of all the bad reviews and he told me to see my room first before deciding to stay or leave. I went up to my room which was on the third floor, room 32. The hotel has no elevator and the stairs didn't seemed very safe! The room had a double bed,a closet,TV,small desk and bathroom. The room was clean,so was the linen. The bathroom was a bit let down and small. It was better than I expected though :) The next morning I went for breakfast. There was not much choice, just bread, ham, cheese, cereals, coffee, tea, milk and cake. The hotel is very average, suitable for students.

“Just what we wanted from a centraal hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2011

I booked this hotel as I looked on a map and wanted a central location, and it was the cheapest.
After reading the reviews on here, I was very worried and expecting the worst.
But my experience was fine, no problems with the hotel, staff or the room.
Our room was a bit dated, like I guess most of the rooms, but it served it's purpose of a cheap, central location hotel.
I stayed in a twin room, with 2 big single beds together, which worked well as the single beds were massive.
There was a TV with a variety of channel's, some English, some Dutch.
Beds were comfy, and the bathroom was clean, maybe needed some bath towels, as only had face towels, but we could live with that.
Breakfast was a basic continental breakfast. Tea, Coffee and OJ, with toast, ham, cheese and cereals, done the job.
I had a great time, and would recommend this hotel, just to show how different people's opinions & experiences can be.

Room Tip: Stayed in room 29, no view but away from main street!
