“Hotel Tony - a great hotel near Acropolis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

We stayed at Hotel Tony just for one night before we leave Athens. We stayed for a total of 6 nights in Athens but we drove around. I wish I found Hotel Tony earlier and stayed here longer!
First of all, the hotel is not what you call a traditional hotel. Tony bought houses around his original hotel, and then renovated them and turn them into a hotel. We booked through www.booking.com, after checking the trip advisor reviews and saw the high ranking, we booked it. There were the 3 of us, including our 11 yr old, so we booked the family room (fits 4). When we got to the hotel, we are given a choice, of staying in our original room, which is in the ground floor (aka basement), or being upgraded to 2 separate rooms in the 2nd floor of the same building for the same price. Wow, we thought. This is great. Long story short, we chose the 2 rooms.

The "building" that we stayed in was behind the front desk building. We can tell it was renovated with a high standard. Everything was so meticulously clean and shiny, and smelled fresh and good. The 2 rooms looked almost identical. The color scheme of the room was red, tan, and black. There are plugs everywhere, flat screen TV, great light switch, the design is very modern with clean lines. Each room also has a balcony, with an awning that you can control from inside to take it up and down (there are buttons for that too). I can imagine it would be great to just sit there in the summer time and drink coffee/tea and being able to adjust the height of the awning up and down as you want. The bed is a european king (so in the US we call it a queen size). There is also a kitchennette with a fridge in the room. The bathroom is also great. You have a choice of the rain shower, or regular shower.
There is also a button to tell the maid if you want your room cleaned or do not disturb, no more hanging paper tag!

Also, there is a FREE wireless that actually WORKS. We are a family with numerous Ipads and blackberries and I phones, and it has been our experience that some places advertise free wireless but the signals are so weak, you get so frustrated because you wait forever just to check emails. The wireless in Tony's - no problem, even for uploading pictures so that our families at home can see where we have been for the day!

The area itself is a safe area, within 5 mins walking from the Acropolis, the new Acropolis museum, Temple of Zeus. If you are willing to walk a little further, you can get to Plaka in 15 mins or so as well.

Tony himself, we met the next morning, he was the nicest guy. We had asked for a taxi to take us to the airport, so Tony called his friend to take us (40 euros to get to the airport - about 40 mins). He was so worried about us getting trapped in Athens traffic and be late for our flight, that he called his friend the driver after 30 mins and asked where he was and how close he was to the airport. This friend said that he and Tony had known each other for a long time. And Tony has always been someone who cares about others, Tony wants everything to be done perfectly and he is very honest.

I highly recommend Hotel Tony to everybody. I consider myself very picky when it comes to hotel and Hotel Tony is definitely one that I would come back to. You dont need to look anymore, the combination of the price, location, the host and the room you get for what you pay - it is amazing. He is renovating more this low season, so next time you are in Athens, ask for the new rooms! You will not regret staying at Hotel Tony.

“The best hotel with the best management”

We had scheduled to spend 2 nights in Athens, Greece and happened to find Hotel Tony thru the Trip advisor site. We selected it primarily for the location as being walking distance to Acropolis and other tourist sites.
When we got here, we were very impressed with the renovations Mr. Tony has done. Compares well with any 5 star hotel in USA. Howevr, the best part was people. Mr. Tony, his wife and their son became our personal friends. They helped us in planning sight seeing tours, printing boarding passes and stood by us for every need, large or small. My wife needed some extra heat in the room. One phone call and 15 minutes later our room was toasty warm. If you visit Athens, do not even think of staying anuwhere else.

“Great Place to Stay in Athens!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

My husband and I stayed in Athens for a couple nights last August 2011, and I wanted a place within walking distance to the Acropolis and the Plaka, but for a reasonable price. We got what I hoped for and more at Hotel Tony. This was our first visit to Athens, so we were rather confused by the streets. We drove around in circles a few times having a hard time finding the hotel, so eventual my husband parked the car and I got out to hopefully find it on foot. I turned the corner and Tony was standing outside his hotel, and it great English he asked, "are you looking for Hotel Tony?" I'm really glad he was there to greet us!

The hotel is hidden a bit amongst the apartments in the area, but I found it to be a really nice, safe neighbourhood. A couple other hotels in the area, but mostly residential. But be warned, don't ever leave ANYTHING in your car in Athens, in any neighbourhood! We were with a group with three cars and we decided to visit the acropolis, but all of our luggage was in the cars. One of the cars was broken into and everything except for a towel was stolen. This is in a really nice residential area close to the acropolis. From what I hear, this happens in any part of Athens. Just be aware of it.

The hotel itself was really nice, clean, and modern. There was also air conditioning, which was much needed in August! We also had our own private (big) balcony where we sat at the cute bistro table and ate breakfast. I loved the marble stairway up to the rooms. There is also a small elevator for carrying luggage up and down. Tony's son was really helpful and brought all of our luggage to our room for us. All with a big smile. Bonus: this was one of the few places we could flush toilet paper in Greece! ha ha

If we are ever in Athens, we will definitely be staying at Hotel Tony again. Highly recommend it!

“Best hotel ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This hotel was one the best hotels we have ever stayed in. The room was big, comfortable and cozy. Location is great and is the reason we picked it. I would say a 5 minute walk to the metro. Tony is the best host and the driver that picked us up from the airport was a very nice and friendly guy. He gave a little tour as we made our way to the hotel. Only complaint (if I have to say it) was that the bathroom door was a little loud, it was hard to shut. That's it! The hotel offers free wifi and it actually works (some hotel wifi doesn't work no matter what you do). Would go back to this hotel for sure.
