Our first night here, we ate at the marvellous rooftop restaurant. We watched as the sun went down behind the acropolis while dining on the most scrumptious food and wine. The service was impeccable and courteous.
The hotel itself was a dream. We were fortunate to have a room with a balcony overlooking constitution square where the protests were happening. We marvelled at the patience of the riot squads who blocked off the busy road so the protest could go on, and then later when they opened the road up again and shooed the protesters off the road. We had room service that night so we could watch all the proceedings across the square. It was rather civilized and we thought that because the world was watching and this was, in fact, the birthplace of democracy, it all was done right. At least on that occasion.
The hotel was very helpful in finding us a guide for the acropolis who was extremely knowledgeable. She was soon to board a National Geographic ship to lecture on the Greek Islands.
The hotel was in the centre of everything we could want to see. It was walking distance from most things, the Plaka, Hadrian's Gate, the Acropolis Museum and the Acropolis itself.
This was a most enjoyable visit to Athens and much had to do with the wonderful hotel.
