“An excellent base to see Athens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

We had been put off visiting Athens due to many reports indicating affordable hotels all being in rough areas. The Parthenon is a pleasant, realistically priced (we paid €79 per night including plentiful buffet breakfast) hotel in a safe area, one minute from the Akropoli metro station, two or three from the entrances to the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum.

Room was clean, bed comfortable, all modern enough, and we simply couldn't fault it. The "hop on hop off" buses stop nearby too, you can wander through the Plaka district for shopping, bars and restaurants, Syntagma Square is about a 10-15 minute walk too.

All in all we would strongly recommend.

“great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

Staff was kind and helpful. Five minutes' walk to Akropolis museum (great!), 10 min walk to the akropolis. Plaka just around the corner, and parliament building 15 min walk away. Rooms are big and breakfast was good. I don't know that I would rank it as a 4 star, rather a very good 3 star. Only one computer available for guests, which was okay in the low season, but I would imagine more troublesome in peak periodsl

“Great location - but only a 3*”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

Firstly the location cannot be bettered, within 1 minutes walk from the hotel is the most wonderful view of the Parthenon, access to the Plaka, Acropolis museum and 'Hop on -hop off' bus stop on your doorstep.
The staff try very hard and are extreamly friendly and helpful, but this lack lustre hotel makes it hard form them to shine. If you are happy with a no frills 3* hotel then the location is worth putting up with tired rooms that are 'adequate'.
The breakfast is very good, but no evening meals are available in the hotel. There are plenty of excellent restaurants all around - avoid the one at the top of the road on the same side as the hotel however.
Go to Lycabutter Hill, via funicular railway, the view from there is well worth the trip, there is a very nice restaurant at the top, although expensive.
There were demonstrations going on at the time we went ( 15 -19 Feb 2012), but these are very localised at the Parliament Building, and directed at the Police and Government not Tourists. Some roads were closed which delayed our return to the airport, but just leave earlier for the time being. It did not badly disrupt our trip, and we managed to see the changing of the Guard which is both traditional and hilarious!

Room Tip: room 601 is on the roof with a view of the Parthenon, but the bathroom is tiny and dated and room sm...

“Graet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about what to do in the area. The Airotel Parthenon is in a great location for visiting the main archaeological sites /attractions that Athens has to offer: the Parthenon, the Plaka, the new museum. Very clean, rooms are big and confortable. Choice of food at breakfast buffet.
