This property is on its way down. However, we were upgraded to a suite because our trip was our wedding anniversay present to ourselves. Our room was not turned down after requests. We also found the contents of our wastebasket floating in our toilet. This was reported to the front desk but not to the "resident" manager (she wasn't in residence) who apologized when informed. The concierge wore the cross keys but he didn't seem to be a member of that society. The hotel was not up the standards we expected for the price. The anti-goverment protests are in the park accross the street. There were some but we missed them. The hotel does post a sign advising guests that this could cause an incovience.
Check-in: Quick and efficient. As it was a bit ealry we were offered a coffee at the Tea Palace next door while our room was prepared. A bottle of house wine was waiting at the room as well as Christmas cookies.
Room: We stayed at an Acropolis Deluxe room on the fourth floor. The room is spacious and elegantly decorated with period furniture. There was ample space to store things and multiple light settings to give the room the right ambience. The bathroom is large and clean but a bit tired. The room has two small balconies that afford nice views of the Acropolis, Syntagma square and the Parliament. The only downside was the level of sound-proofing which I found average.
Room service: The room service was excellent, friendly and efficient. They took our order at 4 am and delivered a very juicy and tasty burger and condiments with a smile. Next morning we had in-room breakfast which also arrived quickly and was very tasty.
Breakfast: The breakfast room is located on the 7th floor and most people would want to sit in the covered balcony as it offers marvelous panoramic views of the Acropolis, the centre of Athens and one can see on a clear day the sea and the islands in the Saronic gulf. The breakfast itself is nice, with all the usual stations and some cretan specialties, although it won't create any wow effect.
Spa: The spa is on a lower ground floor and is a bit small. Changing rooms were well equiped. We had requested a shared room to have a royal treatment with my wife, which was really excellent. The entire process was swift and effortless.
Tea Palace: The one thing that is a bit of a let down is the communal space on the ground floor and Tea Palace. Compared to some of the other big hotels in town, the entrance is more akin of a boutique hotel. Tea Palace on day time has little charm and feels it's been mostly functioning as an evening bar.
Parking: After reading some of the reviews previsously posted here I was a bit concerned but it turned out to be very easy and efficient. Upon arrival each day I was just dropping the keys at the front desk and they took care of parking the car in front of the hotel, so we could leave instantly.
Overall: A very nice, smooth and relaxed stay in a special place.
One of the best places I've been. Classical, spacious rooms with unique furniture, very helpful staff that clean and tidy the room many times per day, nice and small basement swimming pool and spa facilities. The view from the restaurant is a must see and rooms facing Syntagma square have a wonderful view to the Acropolis, the square and the parliament, not being noisy at all at the same time. Amazing stay!
Location is the best I've ever been in Athens. Everything is in walking distance - we did not use the tube at all during our stay.
We stayed here on a family holiday over New Year's eve. The place is exquisite. In the Heart of central Athens, this hotel maintains an old school charm, whilst offering beautiful, clean and very comfortable rooms. A true 5 star hotel. The wonderful breakfast, is also noteworthy, as is the service.
