“Lovely quaint hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2010

We stayed at the Porto Del Colombo for just one night with our 9 year old daughter. The location is fabulous as it is a 5 second walk to the Venetian harbour. The room was lovely - my daughter had her bed in what must have been an old fireplace originally which was so quaint. The decor was nice and suited the style of the building. Everything was clean and well looked after. The staff were also very helpful and although we didn't take breakfast the next morning we were offered it for a small extra fee and when I peeked into the breakfast room the next morning it certainly looked very good! All in all a very short stay in Chania at a lovely original hotel.

“Excellent”

Stayed for 4 nights in late September. We loved Chania in general, but this hotel was an absolute gem. The location cannot be beaten...we stayed on the first floor in the twin room. It was huge with big airy windows - good for watching the action on the street below. I thought it would be noisy but it was very quiet. Breakfast was simple but suited us - yogurt, honey, bread, cheese, juice, fruit and tea/coffee.

We had driven from Iraklion and parked around the corner at the free carpark on the edge of the port...it was an easy 5 min walk to the hotel from there.

There are lots of great cafes, taverns, restaurants all within 1 mins walk of this hotel...steer clear of the touristy ones on the harbour. Go to "Portes" and "Taman" in the back streets.

Not much more I can say about Porto Del Colombo. It was fantastic. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

“Great location, nice hotel”

The advantage of the Porto del Colombo is its location in the historic district, directly behind the harbour on a quiet street. Wonderful restaurants and shopping are in easy walking distance. The room was on the first floor and had a view of a small road. It was one flight of stairs up from the reception area, bright and spacious, with a wood floor and a high wooden ceiling, clean, tastefully decorated with elegant, traditional furnishings.
The breakfast was served at a small parlor. It was very simple, did not provide with a large variety. The receptionists were disinterested at best, rarely raising a smile.

“Good Choice”

I spent a night at Porto del Colombo in late July. The room was on the second floor and had a view of a small road. The room was quite cosy and nicely decorated. Clean and comfortable as well. I wish the bathroom was a more cared of. Although it was clean and with a small tub, i wish it was more maintenanced.
The breakfast was served at a small but very beautiful parlor. It was served and not in buffet and though adequate, did not provide with a large variety . The personnel was friendly and helpful

“Charming but limited hotel in historic Chania”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2010

I would describe Porto del Colombo more as a bed and breakfast than a hotel. The rooms are old and very charming, but charming comes with certain limitations. As other reviewers have mentioned, the stairs are probably the hotel's biggest detriment. Rooms on the top floor have wonderful views, but carrying your luggage up that spiral staircase is challenging. Even carrying my body up three flights of stairs each day was challenging! The bathrooms on the top floor also have very, very small showers with glass doors. If you drop the soap, there isn't enough room to bend over and pick it up.

The advantage of the Porto del Colombo is its location in the historic district. Wonderful restaurants and shopping are in easy walking distance. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good but basic - yogurt, bread & butter, coffee, OJ.
