“Already planning to return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

This was our third stay at Hotel Fiona, and we stayed for 12 nights this time. Though it was some years since our previous visit we were welcomed as family and felt immediate at home. Rooms are basic, but clean and tidy. And the ac which had been installed since our last visit secured comfortable temperatures during night. The stunning view from the upstairs rooms is the main attraction at Fiona, as well as the relaxed atmosphere. The approximately 400 steps from the harbor to Chorio are an extra bonus for people in need for some physical exercise. It is just amazing walking the steps, ‘ya sas’ing locals, beautiful neo classical houses, some in ruins. Chatting with Neil at the Symi Dream Gallery on our way down to the harbor and up, enjoying a chilled drink at the Kali Strata Bar in the evening after an excellent seafood dinner at the Mythos Fish Restaurant by the harbor. My wife and I have visited many Greek islands during the last 20-30 years. Symi is in our view one of the most beautiful, and one of the few islands we always want to return to – and we do return.

“Room with a view!”

Stayed at Fiona hotel for 4 nights and every day I woke up the blue sea was right in front of me!
Incredible views of the symi harbor with it's magnificent archtitecture and picturesque buildings. Rooms were basic but had anything you could ask for while the breakfast was included all the necessary to start your day at the beach! A small drawback was the 500 stairs one has to climb but every hour you can take the bus from gialos which can get you to the hotel at no time! Mini market right at your door and also interesting taverna (Giorgos) next to the hotel!

“Excellent Views”

We stayed for 3 nights in one of the upper rooms with balcony which had stunning views over Symi harbour and lovely sunset views. The room was clean and pleasant although no comfy chairs to sit on on the balcony. Breakfast was typically greek but adequate and also include boiled eggs which was a big plus! The walk down to the harbour was no problem but hard work coming back up. However bus only 1 Euro and runs every hour. Well worth it for the position. Rooms had safe and fridge and decent air conditioning which was a big plus in June! Well equipped supermarket just opposite hotel as well which was highly convenient. Symi if gorgeous. Visit the resteraunt Haritomeni which also has fantastic food at a good price and excellent views for the sunset. Hotel Fiona is excellent value for money. Just get one of the upper rooms with balcony for best possible views.

“Adorable Hotel on Magnificent Island”

Not much to say besides one of the most pleasurable and memorable experiences we've ever had. Extremely well priced, this hotel offers a perfect experience for the nicest Greek island I've been to. Clean and comfortable with traditional greek service and style. Our room had a beautiful view.

“Simple and clean hotel with stunning views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

We went to Symi for 2 days without a hotel reservation, and managed to find a spot in Hotel Fiona. It's a long climb up to Chorio, about 350 steps I think, but what you find at the end is beautiful. The owner of the hotel who checked us in was friendly, and even though he didn't really speak much English (much better than our Greek though), we managed to understand each other just fine.

We paid 65 Euros per night for a double room, and the view alone was worth the price. The room was very clean and pretty - much nicer than what we expected to find. We were comfortable both nights - clean sheets, clean towels, and an amazing balcony. The bathroom is small, but everything works. The AC wasn't very strong, but did the job.

The breakfast is simple but delicious. I read some complaints about it on Trip Advisor, but it depends on what you're looking for in a family run hotel. I prefer less variety, more taste, and that's what we got.

For first timers in Symi, I think the Chorio area has more character than the harbor, where there are too many tourists (and as many restaurants to rip them off). The Chorio area is more local, unassuming, and fun. Check out Taverna Zoe near Hotel Fiona - incredible food! And if the steps are daunting, you can always take a bus from Pedi - leaves every hour until 11pm. 1 Euro per person.

A very pleasant experience overall!
