“Simple and clean hotel with stunning views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

We went to Symi for 2 days without a hotel reservation, and managed to find a spot in Hotel Fiona. It's a long climb up to Chorio, about 350 steps I think, but what you find at the end is beautiful. The owner of the hotel who checked us in was friendly, and even though he didn't really speak much English (much better than our Greek though), we managed to understand each other just fine.

We paid 65 Euros per night for a double room, and the view alone was worth the price. The room was very clean and pretty - much nicer than what we expected to find. We were comfortable both nights - clean sheets, clean towels, and an amazing balcony. The bathroom is small, but everything works. The AC wasn't very strong, but did the job.

The breakfast is simple but delicious. I read some complaints about it on Trip Advisor, but it depends on what you're looking for in a family run hotel. I prefer less variety, more taste, and that's what we got.

For first timers in Symi, I think the Chorio area has more character than the harbor, where there are too many tourists (and as many restaurants to rip them off). The Chorio area is more local, unassuming, and fun. Check out Taverna Zoe near Hotel Fiona - incredible food! And if the steps are daunting, you can always take a bus from Pedi - leaves every hour until 11pm. 1 Euro per person.

A very pleasant experience overall!

“I shall return”

We have visited Symi at least 10 times now but usually stay in the Harbour area so our first stay in the Chorio was an experiment, even though we know the Village quite well. We stayed at the Fiona for a fortnight before moving down the KaliStrata to an apartment in Yialos for another two weeks.
Yes, we loved the Fiona. Not a moment's trouble and the famous view from our balcony and the breakfast terrace was amazing. Fiona and Michaelis were excellent hosts and the hotel is very convenient for the bars and restaurants of the Chorio (which we also know well!). Very good position for walking and The Bus isn't far away if we get too tired to walk up the 384 steps from Yialos or down through the valley to Pedi.

“Surly Owners”

We stayed three times. The views are indeed spectacular but the rooms are "basic" at best. Breakfast is the surliest and cheapest we've experienced in some 30 years of travel in Greece. The owners are the only managers of Greek hotels who "insist" on not giving you a receipt. Nor are we sure that they give one to the tax authorities. Great location, great views, not so nice people.

Lovely family run hotel. Views are great - enjoy whilst eating your breakfast! The accomodation is very clean albeit maybe on the basic side but you are only there to sleep! Would definately recomend.

“Great value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2009

A lovely hotel situated in the village part of the island with breathtaking views of the Aegean sea. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Loved the personal touch of the lovely elderly couple who run the operation. They really made us feel at home. Will definitely go back again!!!!!
