“Nice central hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2007

I stayed at this hotel at the end of July 2007 (been travelling since so first chance i've had to write a review). We chose it principly because it was cheap. I was suitably pleased, that whilst it was cheap, the room was very nice (been revamped very recently) as was the lounge/reception.

The staff were helpful, the breakfast was good, and the hotel is central to the train station and the little and big squares (5min walk).

If you want cheap, conveniant, good quality - then this is for you.

The corridors are very strange - but don't let that put you off!

“Reasonable For Money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2007

I stayed here for three nights in August 2007; the location of the hotel is rather central and is a 5-10 minute walk from the main station.

From the past reviews I have read on here states the hotel was in need of repair, it would seem during 2007 there is a lot of renovations taking place, all the rooms have been modernised and they are very Swedish looking, good beds and lots of space. The bathrooms are all new and modern with great power showers. The only think lacking is air conditioning and there is no mini fridge in the room which lets it down being the height of the summer.

The majority of the rest of the hotel is old fashioned, a brick walled corridor and the carpet looks like it needed changing a couple of years ago, same with the stairwell, it kind of still has the feel of what it would have been like in the 1970’s when it was apartments for people in the Navy. The bar, breakfast area and reception have all been renovated and it looks nice. They say the full renovations will be complete this year.

Wireless internet in rooms is reasonably priced at 120 SEK a day but there is no free internet access in the lobby, and the price charged is very expensive to use the computer there, my advice for people needing internet access is go to the central station where 30 SEK will get you 90 minutes.

Overall it’s a good hotel for the price and location and it serves a good breakfast. The staff are all very friendly so you cannot go wrong with staying here. I would certainly stay here again with no hesitations.

“Not a great hotel”

We actually wanted a hotel in Copenhagen but a congress had filled up the whole of Copenhagen so we had to stay across the water in Malmo. Getting to Malmo from Copenhagen airport is simple enough as trains run every twnety minutes or so and it is only a 25 minute train journey. The hotel though was a huge disappointment. Very dated rooms, no air con (in blazing summer), seedy location with no restaurants anywhere nearby and not very helpful staff.

There was a trouser press in the rooms and it is very close to the main train station which are about the only redeeming features of the hotel. If at all possible find a different hotel nearer the centre of Malmo or don't have high expectations.

“Badly In Need of repair”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2006

This was my second stay at the First Hotel Jorgen Kock. I decided to give the hotel a second chance since my first experience in 2005 wasn’t ‘terrible’ and the price was reasonable. Alas, the proprietor appears to be allowing a fair situation to turn worse.

First I’ll point out some of the positives. The lobby and dining areas are clean and attractive. The breakfast spread is adequate for the business traveler. Wireless internet access is a plus. The staff was friendly. It’s also a short 5 minute walk to the train station.

On to the negatives: There are no power outlets in the bathroom area. The room and hallway carpets are stained and dirty appearing. Room walls and doors bear the scars of too many careless travelers. The room I occupied had unpainted drywall repair (see photo). One of the mattresses smelled dreadful – possibly of urine.

In short, this is a property badly in need of upgrade – adequate for the very tolerant overnight traveler on a strict budget.

This is a clean hotel with pretty large rooms but i dont like the hotel very much. I cannot put my finger on just whats wrong but the feeling in the brickstone corridor just doesnt make this feel like a hotel. The breakfast is ok, average i should say.
