Clean, comfortable, good location, great breakfast, free wifi, free tea/coffee in lobby - what more do you want? Nothing fancy but certainly matched all our needs and staff were very good. I suspect you will get a better deal going straight to the hotel website (as we did for one night) rather than through one of the hotel comparison websites (used for two nights). And there is a discount for DNT members. Would definitely use again.

what you see is what you get.
Both the traveler photos and professional photos are what you experience. Breakfast was full buffet, as a lacto-ovo intolerant, there was a lot of variety from which to choose from.
1.5kms away from the oslo waterfront, walking distance to everywhere, close to many mini-pris (mini-supermarkets). Chinese and a persian restaurants downstairs.
Very happy with the budget hotel, we stayed 4 nights, used it to sleep, sufficient for us as we were out all day.

Room tip: we were on lv7 facing office building, empty in the morning and night when we returned, so we had a lot of privacy.

As expensive a city as Oslo is, it was remarkable to find such a great value as the Thon Hotel Munch. I stayed in a single room for 3 nights, for $254 US dollars.
This price included a delicious buffet breakfast, consisting of tasty eggs, meats, cheeses, vegetables, fruits, bread selection, and juices. Truly, this breakfast was as high-quality as some 5-star hotels I have stayed in.
Why did I stay at a budget hotel? - Because after 2 weeks in Europe (including 2 of the most luxurious hotels in all of Europe), I needed to save a little money while in Oslo!
The room was clean and comfortable, with an adequate-sized bathroom and shower. Maid service was prompt and complete. The only downside was the lack of air-conditioning in what was an Oslo heatwave last week. However, they provided a desk fan (which did help), and I was hardly in the room at all during the day anyway. At night, I was perfectly comfortable.
The front desk staff were courteous and helpful, pointing out bus/train stops on a map, as well as other advice when asked.
This hotel location was excellent, with less than a 15-minute walk to the harbor and many of Oslo's top sites. The airport bus shuttle stop is a 5-minute walk from the front door.
All in all, I would recommend the Thon Hotel Munch to anyone, but especially those on a budget. I will definitely stay here again if my travels take my back to Oslo.

Room tip: I stayed in room 916, and had no problem. Building view, shady in the afternoon.

We stayed in Thon Hotel Munch for 2 nights during one weekend in mid July, and I would like to say that as it rarely happened to me - this hotel looks better than the photos on the web site. Very nice cozy rooms, comfortable bed, big screen TV with good choice of channels, very clean, silent at night, towels provided, soap + shampoo and shower gel provided. It was the cheapest option to be found in Oslo at that time only 5 mins walking distance to the National Theater, Royal Palace, Opera, Central Station, etc. They have a very good breakfast (don't offer other meals during the day, but) if you pay an extra 60 NOK they allow you to take sandwiches with you (which is a very good price comparing to the 100 NOK for a McDonalds menu).
Staff was very helpful.
Free coffee, tea, latte, cappuccino and hot chocolate machine near the elevators :)
Storage room for luggage but the hotel bears no responsibility for your items - we used it, nothing bad happened, they have video surveillance in the room though.
Strongly recommend.

Room tip: I think taking a room higher on the floors could help you with more silence (even if the street is very quiet at nights. Also don't forget your key because the elevator in only running with the active card-key. ALSO !!! be very attentive as it also says on the room door, the door is not locking automatically when you exit the room, you will have to put the key in the door lock once again just like you unlock - it is the same move to lock it back.
