As expensive a city as Oslo is, it was remarkable to find such a great value as the Thon Hotel Munch. I stayed in a single room for 3 nights, for $254 US dollars.
This price included a delicious buffet breakfast, consisting of tasty eggs, meats, cheeses, vegetables, fruits, bread selection, and juices. Truly, this breakfast was as high-quality as some 5-star hotels I have stayed in.
Why did I stay at a budget hotel? - Because after 2 weeks in Europe (including 2 of the most luxurious hotels in all of Europe), I needed to save a little money while in Oslo!
The room was clean and comfortable, with an adequate-sized bathroom and shower. Maid service was prompt and complete. The only downside was the lack of air-conditioning in what was an Oslo heatwave last week. However, they provided a desk fan (which did help), and I was hardly in the room at all during the day anyway. At night, I was perfectly comfortable.
The front desk staff were courteous and helpful, pointing out bus/train stops on a map, as well as other advice when asked.
This hotel location was excellent, with less than a 15-minute walk to the harbor and many of Oslo's top sites. The airport bus shuttle stop is a 5-minute walk from the front door.
All in all, I would recommend the Thon Hotel Munch to anyone, but especially those on a budget. I will definitely stay here again if my travels take my back to Oslo.
