“Brief, enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

My friend and I stayed for a one night pampering break. We arrived in the afternoon and spent an hour in the leisure centre, swimming in the small pool and enjoying the sauna and jaccuzi.

Dinnner in the restaurant was excellent.

The hotel was clean and warm with a lovely log fire in the hall. The staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was good (for self service). We then had relaxing treatments in the beauty room.
All very good value for money.

It's a good base to explore the area which has lots to offer.

“weekend break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Booked a 2 night stay at Blackwell Grange 27/28 jan with groupon. The staff in all departments were efficient and pleasant showing excellent customer service skills, the room was spacious and clean, my only glib was the fact that it was directly over all the rubbish bins and staff entrance, which is a shame as i am sure the hotel was not fully booked. We dined in the restaurant both nights and the food and service was excellent. We had the special offer on the 2 nd night which was 2 courses and a bottle of wine for £34 for 2 people dinning. Breakfast on both mornings was very good. all in all a very enjoyable weekend break.

Stayed 2 nites on a groupon offer it was very good bed and breakfast for 2 with dinner on the first nite with a bottle of wine as we didn't want the wine that was on offer we asked if we could add some money towards a better one and was told that was ok.the meal was ok the service was slow but the staff were friendly. The room was basic but clean breakfast was a bit disappointing. We will stay again but only if there is am offer on

“Disappointing stay & service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

My partner & I stayed at this hotel in the October half term of last year. We decided to treat ourselves to a slightly more expensive hotel as we were travelling so far to get there. Unfortunately we would have been better off staying in a Travelodge for a few extra nights at half the price! When we arrived we were not greeted rather "name" was barked at us by the surly receptionist. We were not informed of the gym, dining options or were the cocktail lounge was. Nevertheless we duly went to our room. For the price we paid it was quite a disappointment, missing handle from the chest of drawers, shoddy finishing on the room itself apart, it was the pipes at night that kept us awake. When we finally did rest we were awoken by the fire alarms in the morning; that they were working is brilliant, that the staff could not tell us whether it was a false alarm or come to get us from the cold outside was not!! The final straw was when we went to, what we thought was the cocktail bar, (it later transpired that this was somewhere else in the hotel) we waited for twenty minutes with the other guests for someone to appear & when they finally did she could not have been more unfriendly if she had tried!
When I got home I wrote to the hotel & the director I was asked to phone the hotel to talk to the manager. She was very apologetic & offered to upgrade us when we were next in the area, but to be frank I would not travel this far & pay so much on the adhoc chance I may receive a lukewarm greeting.
Why did I wait so long to write this review from October 2011? Well, before Christmas I received a letter from the PA of the director saying she had passed my concerns on to the customer services manager who would be in touch imminently. Alas, I have heard nothing since. If you are looking for a luxiourious stay save your money - go to a cheaper establishment & visit this hotel for its lovely grounds!

Room Tip: Ask not to be put at the back of the hotel if you do(?!!) decide to stay here.
