“Absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't let my worst enemy stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Absolutely dreadful. We were visiting a sick relative so got to the rooms at 9pm in the evening, so we had food in the restaurant. Although the waiter was very nice the food was over priced for what it was and the beer was all watered down within an inch of it's life.
We had reserved a double room and a twin room and requested that a cot be put into the twin room, I even had a call to check which room we needed it in, but when we got there is wasn't there. When I called reception and asked for it he said 'is it necessary right now?' by this time it was 10:15pm and my nephew desperately needed to go to sleep.
The whole night none of us got any sleep at all because all the rooms around us decided to throw a party. At 3am in the morning we complained to reception and the guy there simple said 'what do you want me to do about it'. My nephew who is 20 months old was woken up several times because of the noise and the smell of cigarettes because the people in the room next to him were smoking. It was a god awful place that I would never recommend anyone to stay in. I even thought about taking the duvet and pillow and staying in our car outside at one point. Please, please, please don't stay here. And if you do, and hate it, then do what we did - After repeating several times that I wanted a full refund, they did give me my money back!

“Dated, but OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This hotel is OK for 1 night. Now looking expensive if compared to a travelodge type hotel. Would only stay here if location was convienient. Free Wi-fi that works well. Everything just looks old, but i didn't really expect anymore.
buffet salad in restuarant was OK.

“No frills, tired, but clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

My wife, me and our 18mth old stayed here one night in December 2011. It feels like a motel rather than a hotel - all the rooms open onto the carpark. We had a small twin room on the ground floor. It felt pretty old and rickety, but the TV, kettle and phone were all relatively new. The beds were narrow and a bit soft but OK. Bedding was clean and fairly decent too. The bathroom was similarly old and tired. But it was clean, there was plenty of hot water and everything worked OK. Light sleepers might well struggle with the noise from the nearby roads. We paid £39 for the room online (the deal included continental breakfast but we didn't eat it). Would I stay there again? Probably not, although the welcome at reception was friendly. Basically the whole place needs a proper refit now. It's been patched up as best as possible for a long long time, but to compete with other, newer budget hotel chains it needs to be seriously improved. There's a Travelodge about 10 minutes down the A127 towards London and assuming it's like all the other Travelodges I'd reckon it's far better value for money if you book well enough in advance.

Room Tip: Further from the main road A127 the better

“Don't stay at the Camponile, Basildon!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

Although this hotel has a two star rating, you would of thought the rooms would be clean, you would feel safe and secure... BUT NO! The rooms were dusty, dim, dingy and smelt musky. The staff could barely speak English... even the English staff had trouble! There were bottles of drink left in the room from the visitors before, which makes me think the staff hadn't cleaned out the rooms. I decided to have a shower... The water ended up everywhere apart from on me and in the bath. We decided to try the food in the 'restaurant'. The waiter took two orders even though there was three of us! The food tasted the same. It was as if all the food was cooked in one pan. The breakfast was awful and the staff were unclean! When you got into bed, the bed would fly across the room! The bedding was dirty! The hotel reminded me of a hotel in a scary film... In actual fact it was a horror movie! Apparently, the rooms can be hired out by the hour and there are many cars that have been broken into there! Please read all the other reviews! this 'Hotel' is horrendous!!

Room Tip: None of the rooms!

“It is what it is!”

From the outside, the hotel looks very tired. However, the reception area was bright and fairly modern. Our room was quite small but as a place to stay either en route or visiting friends or relatives it was perfect. The room was very clean, warm and well placed, overlooking the car park there was no road noise. In fact, it was lovely and quiet. It could do with a couple more electric sockets but it's not a deal breaker. All in all, it's a great hotel for the price, and I would definitely stay there again.
