its not a huge hotel,
the breakfast room was nice,breakfast was oke.the staff was friendly,but the rooms.
small,unplesent,missing a bedside lamp,and het bathroom was very old.
balkony was nice.

Although staff were generally helpful one member was offhand with us on many occasions and they were short on glasses which meant we often had to have a different choice of drink. The food was frozen and bought in which was tasteless and always cold in the evenings. On one occassion there was not enough food so I went without,often the fish and pork was cremated! The breakfasts were a much better standard thankfully.

The room I stayed at was in dire need of updating and more worryingly the window had a faulty handle and nearly fell off when we opened it. Skirting boards were just pieces of wood nailed on and painted and this was flaking off and there appeared to be a false ceiling which didn't help with noise above. The table lamp could not be used the same time as the television and it needed the same two pin plug. On the plus side the beds were comfortable and things were mostly clean apart from mould on the bathroom tiles.

One night we walked into the town which took us about 10-15 (we walk fast) on our return at 10.30 the hotel was in darkness. Thinking we would like a night cap my husband searched the building for staff and everything was locked up. To all intense and purpose we were alone.

To sum up the hotel lacks proper management and would benifit from a complete revamp of it's rooms. Shame but this place could be a gem if run properly.

Stayed here as part of an organised Christmas Markets Tour. The decor in the public rooms belie the fact that the bedrooms are gloomy, outdated, cramped and stink of stale tobacco smoke. Bedroom decor last updated in the 70's, cracked tiles in the shower, toilet cistern covered in cigerette burns, towels on the small side, thin though clean. Almost impossible to use the toilet due to location of the toilet paper dispenser, had to sit sideways. Bed ok, no extra blankets or pillows available when requested. Carpet and curtains in bedroom need a deep clean to remove stains and stink of smoke. No heating in the corridors even though temp outside was in minus figures. Cobwebs hanging from smoke dectors make one question how often they are checked. Nowhere to hang up coats or outerwear. Staff were friendly but lack of numbers lead to poor service levels and long waits. Staff appeared to have a very poor understanding of special diets i.e. diabetes and coeliac conditions ,even though notified in advance and advised that these could be accommodated. Evening meals basic but on one evening totally inedible - waited 50 mins for the main course which when it arrived was served on stone cold plates, with cold vegeatables and half cooked fish, served with herb sauce that was so salty it seemed that they had emptied a kilo of salt into it. Waited a further 40 mins to be served a cold ready prepared dessert that was so foul everyone left it, the vegeatarians were served veggie burgers that were still frozen in the middle! Offered free wine and beer to make amends on the following night but even though told a special effort had been made food ran out and a number of people were served raw food. Had booked this hotel as an upgrade, meant to be 3 star but not even 2 star standard. Says it is an easy walk to the town centre but is a 15 min walk at least. Busy rail line and level crossing a few hundred yards away which can be heard in the rooms, also opposite a school so road busy at times.

My partner and I stayed here for an annual Chrismas markets tour. The hotel was very welcoming with a welcome cocktail on your arrival. Check in was very easy - just basically give your name and a key is given to you instantly - just what you need after a 8 hour coach journey. The reception area is lovely and was decorated with lovely xmas decorations. The rooms are basic and could do with a revamp. They were old carpets and curtains, not a very pleasant colour so it didnt look much really. But it was very clean and the beds were very very comfotable - thats all that matters to me considering we spent our time sightseeing and shopping rather than being couped up indoors!! The walls are pretty thin so you can hear someone talking loud or coughing loud. the corridor floors are also a bit creaky so you'll hear someone walking past.
Breakfast was lovely - and the service is really good - the staff really make an effort. At busy time the popular dishes run out, but are usually replaced within 10 mins.
Dinner was also very enjoyable - 3 course meals each nigh were included in our price so we were were very pleased with the quality of the food and the service. Drinks are a reasonable price also, not extortionate. The location is about a 10 min walk from valkenburg town centre (i really recommend going in end November and Dec as the town looks beautiful all lit up at xmas) and is very quiet. I would definately recommend this hotel if you get a good rate with meals included.
