“cute bistro down under”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Came here for dinner one night and it was great. It was only a week night but the place was packed. Make a reso if you're going to eat here. The decor was really nice, it reminded me of Balthazar in NYC but our table was larger at Felix, yay! Our server was really nice and informative.

The complimentary bread was so yummy. We both had a fish dish, my friend had the buttered skate and I had the fish of the day, both were very good. We finished our dinner with the passionfruit souffle which was heavenly and worth the 20 minute wait!

There is a great bar and outdoor seating, what a perfect bistro in the heart of the CBD. It's also next to some pumping club in the Ivy or called the Ivy so if you sit outside, you get to see a lot of interesting people (women) walk by ready to be clubbin'.

And if you happen to be walking in this part of town during the weekend when it is quiet, don't be surprised for loud club music to be blasting from said club during the day for after hours partying. It was unreal but so cool.

I only went to one other really nice place to eat in Sydney and I think this place is very reasonably priced for the wonderful meal we got.

“Like stepping into a little piece of Paris”

We booked a late dinner here (9:15pm) on Saturday night and enjoyed a few pre dinner drinks around Circular Quay taking in the sunset before we dined. From walking through the entrance you immediately want to take in your surrounds and feel like there is a little bit of theatre in the room. The open kitchen, seafood station and walk in wine cellar all add atmosphere to the space. The menu has a good selection of bistro style dishes with a traditional twist and full of fresh flavours. I took one look at the dessert menu and had to have the mango, lycee tartlet with coconut sorbet, my three favourite flavours in one! The seafood platter looked amazing, will have to try that next time.

“Best Birthday Dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We had dinner here on a recommendation from a friend. We were not disappointed. All the food was fantastic, I felt it was priced very reasonably for the quality of the food. I have a gluten and dairy free diet and the waiter made sure all food was suitable without and difficulty. He also asked for a dessert to be made up from a number of the desserts on the menu. I would love to go back here next time we are in Sydney.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

I had a trip to Paris last week without having to leave Australia. Felix has a genuine Paris bistro buzz without the dogs. The food was delicious, for starters I tried the mushroom soup which tasted like the mushrooms had just been plucked from the field. My second course was the double baked goat cheese souffle which was the best example of a souffle I have tasted. The flavour and texture were sublime and I would have to return to Felix if only for another "fix". The only drawback that would make me hesitant to return was the noise level, one had to shout to be heard. This certainly takes away from an intimate or even a chatty dinner with friends. There are outside tables but they lack the ambiance of the dining room.

“Meh.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I had dinner at Felix on a Thursday night with some friends. I tried to book a table through their website but unfortunately, bookings were only taken for Monday - Wednesday nights, so we decided to show up and try to get a table on the night.

I was the first of our group to arrive and went inside to ask for a table. The restaurant was not very busy - only about half full - but attracting a waiter's attention proved impossible. One waiter told me that she would take me to my table then walked off, leaving me standing in the middle of the restaurant until another waiter came and led me to our table. I noticed that some of the people walking in did have bookings so I'm not sure why no bookings were taken over the website - perhaps you need to ring if you want a booking on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night?

The menu was interesting - lots of French favourites like steak tartare with a few unusual dishes mixed in, like Reuben sandwiches with pickles. Mains were around the $32-38 mark and there were a couple of dishes that could be shared between two or more people as well. I ordered the pork jowl with grilled nectarines and baby spinach which was nice enough, but nothing special.

The service, on the other hand, was terrible - we ordered cocktails with our dinner and they didn't arrive until an hour later, well after we'd finished eating, and only after we reminded the waiter that we hadn't received them. There seemed to be a lot of staff but they all looked very rushed and waving a waiter over for long enough to place our orders was very difficult. It's also incredibly noisy - we had intended to have a big gossippy dinner but left after we'd eaten because the restaurant was so noisy that we couldn't hear each other.

Felix is supposed to be an authentic Parisian bistro. The only remotely Parisian thing about it is the lovely interior of the restaurant - the food and service lack the charm and attention that I experienced when I was in Paris. I won't go back.
