We stayed at the Swissotel for our wedding anniversary. Good location. Great for shopping and not too far to walk to The Rocks or the Quay.
The initial reception area off Market Street is strange and small but don't be fooled. You get in the lift and go to the 8th floor where the real reception is, and it looks very pretty. They were renovating when we were there so it didn't look its best but you could tell it was going to be really nice.
The rooftop pool area is fabulous. It has a decent sized, clean pool. Separate spa. Nice deck chairs. The gym is all sparkling new. The day spa looks lovely but I didn't use it.
The service is excellent. All staff you walk past greet you with a smile and hello, and they are all very helpful.
The rooms are the big let down. We had a corner room. It was tiny. It was also very old and haggard looking. It was almost as if we weren't in the same hotel when you were on the inside of the room. We could have been in a country motel. The blinds were broken. The bed was old. The furniture was worn. The bathroom was clean but needed a bit of a make over, although it seemed newer than the rest of the room so it wasn't too bad. Separate bath. Very small shower. Rooms didn't really meet the standard of the rest of the hotel. So that has brought my score down to average, from what would have been well above average for most almost everything else. The rooms I would score as poor, but really bordering on terrible for the five star standard of the hotel.
It might have just been our room. Perhaps some are renovated? I would go back there provided I could get a better room. I'd ask that first before I book. Everything else was great, particularly the staff, so it was a shame about the room.
