“Sir Stamford is a haven of excellence in Sydney”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2012

My husband and I stayed on Sunday 19th February for our 40th wedding anniversary. The entire experience was outstanding. The hotel even laid on perfect weather for us! Our room was large, spotlessly clean and comfortable, with lovely views over Circular Quay. Being able to open the little French doors to enjoy a drink of sparkling wine (compliments of the hotel), was awesome. The proximity to so many iconic Sydney attractions such as the Art Gallery of NSW, the Botanic Gardens, Circular Quay, the Opera House, the Rocks and many historic buildings, was ideal. Our family joined us in The Bar for drinks before going out for dinner, and the service was excellent. On the Monday morning, breakfast in the dining room included fresh fruit, lovely smoked salmon, properly cooked eggs, and many other options. We were also given a generous parking allowance which well and truly exceeded the number of hours spent in the hotel. Our visit to the Sir Stamford was at the recommendation of our daughter and her partner, who have stayed on four occasions. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We will definitely be booking a return visit.

Dear Valued Guests

Congrtatulations on your anniversary - 40 years is truly worth celebrating. As you have recommended we are very fortunate in our location, which is as you have described, and we also work hard to ensure our guests have exceptional experiences. Thank you for sharing.

The Bar can be overlooked by guests are they come and go from the cities nearby attractions, but it is a very good destination on it's own and indeed we get many guests from other "big" hotels in our neighbourhood to inspect our Heritage features and test our High Tea reputaiton. The Bar has the orginal Australian boxwood floors, lovely high ceilings, sash windows and decent couches to relax on. It is a very good space for private get togethers.

Thank you again, we look forward to your return visit.

“Good location, excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

Excellent location when attending a function at the Opera House. Our standard room was excellent with a view over Circular Quay. Dinner at The Bar was excellent in value and taste. The decor is old world, calm and relaxing. We would certainly not hesitate to stay at Sir Stamford again and booking early ensures a good rate.

Dear Valued Guests

We do appreciate your very high ratings of our whole hotel and your experience here.

Your advice to book early is very wise as we do certainly offer very generous discounts off our rates for bookings 60 days out, 30 days out and then a smaller one for 7 days out. There are t3 major cut off periods prior to arrival date and the reason why you will see significant rate changes from day to day if you are searching for that extra value. These advance booking discounts apply across all room types and even include our suites.

We look forward to your return visit as there are certainly many reasons to come back to Circular Quay - the Vivid festival in June is a very special visual feast and many local guests are booking to stay with us as we are walking distance to the La Traviata Sydney Harbour performances by Opera Australia during March. Much better than driving home.

Kind regards
Heather idoine

Outstanding hotel, great location and friendly service. Ideal for Opera House and Circular Quay ferries, and the city shops. Great restaurants around the hotel too.
Rooms are immaculate and large, bathrooms huge. You will never be disappointed.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012

I have stayed at the Sir Stamford on a few occasions and it never disappoints. It is ideally located a stone's throw from Circular Quay, Ferries, trains, the opera house and many restaurants and bars. It does not strictly overlook the Quay so people expecting wonderful views from every room may be disappointed. It is reminiscent of a boutique european Hotel in both size and look, except that the bedrooms are much bigger than the European boutique Hotels i have visited. I loved the size of my room, the very comfortable bed, the pillows and sheets, the standard of cleanliness and their breakfast that in my opinion is fit for a king. They also have a fabulous afternoon tea with some of the most delicious cakes and sandwiches in the City. The reservations man whose name I cannot recall was very helpful and quick to confirm my booking. I found all their staff very attentive and gracious like the whole Hotel. I would highly recommend this Hotel to people who love fresh air (they have opening doors on to juliette balconies) who appreciate fine old fashioned service, and who want to be in a prime location. Sydney is expensive but I find that the Sir Stamford always has very competitive rates and offers much more in space and comfort than many other Sydney Hotels in this price range. During the week it seemed to me that this was very much a business hotel so the lovely pool area was devoid of people which was great. It was almost like having a private pool!

Dear Valued Guest

It's very complimentary to receive such an excellent account of the hotel from a "local". Your depth of knowledge is very evident.

Our Juliette balconies are not only attractive, but provide travellers who prefer "natural air" with this option. However there are times when the air is so hot in Sydney at this time of the year, that in room air conditioning is a blessing. Like most inner city hotels, we do get city noises and while this can be a distraction the knowledge that one can open 2 balcony doors and enjoy the city sounds and enjoy whatever the weather is offering is a comfort.

Your pool comments are very valid - it is a very private area and while it does not have the glamour of a resort style setting, it does have charm and a view of the cityscape and our historic roof!

Thank you again

“good location nice building”

location was good for the opera house but felt a bit wedged between big buidings. still got a view of the harbour however...the deluxe room came at a price though! the welcome canapes and fruit were average. staff were nice and friendly. the feel of the hotel was quite decadent old luxe but it felt a tad stuffy to me... would maybe book somewhere more out to the rocks next time.

Dear Valued Guest

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. It's good advice to check locations on Tripadvisor and compare distances to the attractions you want to visit. Sydney is certainly a very spread out city and being close to public transport can save a lot of time and money. Many visitors choose the Rocks area for souvenier hunting, the attractive weekend markets and the many historic sites, bars and cafes. The Rocks bustles with cruise ships, visitors, buskers and bargains, all underneath the shadow of our magnificent Harbour Bridge.

Sir Stamford is a 5 minute walk to The Rocks and while close, offers a more subdued retreat from the hustle and bustle. We like to think of our hotel as an oasis for guests and being able to share our knowledge of the cities special offerings - tailored to our guests requests. Sydney has some very special markets all over the city that are less "tourist" orientated and it's worth asking for the market schedule if you want to have a "local" experience. By the way visitors coming for next weekend 25th and 26th February will enjoy the opportunity to attend the nearby Hyde Park regional Wine makers event - a once a year opportunity to taste NSW wines in one setting - I am looking forward to it.

Kind regards
