“Best place to stay for Lyric Theatre”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

I stayed at this Hotel with my Daughter & 6 year old Grandaughter this past weekend.
We went to the Lyric Theatre to see Mary Poppins. South bank, Theatres and Brisbane CBD are all within walking distance. This is a fantastic Hotel to base yourself for convenience. Heaps of restaurants close by also. Valet parking attendants very pleasant and extremely efficient. Check in/out was a breeze. Staff on a whole in this Hotel were helpful which is a bonus these days ! Thanks for a great stay. I will definitely be back.

“Worst experience in a 4-star hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

I arrived midday and there was unrelenting loud drilling sounds reverberating through the floors from construction. I complainted to the front desk manager who didn't offer any solutions or options. The cups were stained, there were only 2 plates and token cutlery, stains on the blanket, stains all over the ironing board cover, dirty marks in the bath. It seems that Rydges do the bare minimum to tick the boxes to get the 4-star rating. The bathroom in the gymnasium had an awful stench. The walls are wafer thin, I could hear the person using the toilet next door, and doors banging from 5.00am onwards every day. I had a late checkout but the cleaning staff kept trying to get without knocking and just putting the key in the lock. For the $280 you pay at the Rydges for a studio room, you can get a nice 1-bedroom across the road at the Mantra.

Room Tip: The rooms are run-down and cleanliness is below average. The walls are thin, you will hear doors ban...

Dear “Flowerpot003”

It is certainly disheartening to read that we were your worst experience in a 4-star hotel. Whilst we are striving to upgrade the hotel it does come with unavoidable renovation noise.

Your comments regarding room maintenance/cleanliness are an exception to our usual high standards of service.

Your late checkout is noted on the system and no staff member should try to enter before then, I apologise this was not adhered to.

On completion of our renovations in September I would like to welcome you back to Rydges South Bank. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Kind Regards

Scott

“An 'A' for effort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012

This was my fourth choice as the first 3 on my list didn't have rooms. The foyer and corridors were uninspiring - bland and just the usual fare. But elsewhere there is much to like about this hotel, in particular, the staff. There really is a very nice level of service being delivered here.

A few dot points about the hotel
- the room service food is a good and it was delivered promptly, and while the breakfast room staff were terrific, the food was very ordinary.
- the bed and pillows are super comfortable
- the room decor is way above what the corridor promises - and i was in a basic queen room - - on a high floor (although there was the unusual addition of a bench with a sink and microwave - handy for a longer stay).
- the bathroom was small but the shower was terrific and towels were fine
- cleanliness was very good

This place was obviously something much less in days past. There's been renovations and the staff from concierge to reception and housekeeping would show up some 5 star places. Thanks Rydges!

Room Tip: Had a room on the railway side - level 11 - but didn't hear a peep all nite and I'm a light...

Dear “SydneyRaptor”

Really appreciate the review!

We have a strong focus on customer service and it is great to read that our efforts are paying off.
We are waiting for the unveiling of the new ‘Podium Level’ development scheduled for September; this will encompass a purpose built solution for the Buffet Breakfast. I do hope with your recent stay we may have crept up on your list of future hotel choices.

I look forward to having the pleasure of welcoming you back to Rydges South Bank.

Thanks again Scott

“Easy for conferences”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This is our 3rd two night stay in 12 months as we have a conference every 6 months at the next door Convention Centre. So in saying that Rydges South Bank is the best hotel to stay at as there are no roads to cross...just straight into the Convention Centre!!
We always get a King Suite which are on the ends of the hotel and on both sides and also in the middle, so there is plenty of space. The King Suite also has a microwave and a Kitchen-ette. If you are driving and want to save a couple of dollars you can check-in and self park your car at the Convention centre for $15 a day or you can pay $25 at the hotel (which sometimes they drive your car around to the convention centre anyway...not in every case... but if their carpark is full they will). We have eaten at the CBD Bar and make sure you join the Rydges Priority Guest Program as its free and offers you great discounts on Resturant Dining and Rooms(our suite was only $215 a night) and you also get a Welcome Back Beverage every time you stay AND as long as you let them know 12 hours in adavance of departure you can get a late check-out of 1pm without getting charged extra!! All in all a great Hotel!

Dear "magicalforus"

Thanks so much for the review!

It’s great to see you continuing to return, we are indeed in an ideal location for the Brisbane Convention Centre.
As Rydges PriorityGUEST champion for the hotel, I am glad to see your reaping the benefits the program has to offer. The late checkout is definitely a winner.
I look forward to welcoming you back to Rydges South Bank soon.

Thanks again Scott.

Our stay was for 3 nights, great location, so many different places to eat and shop. 10 min walk to the city. The staff at Rydges were fantastic, the room was excellent. Thank you for making our stay that bit extra. Will definately stay again.

Room Tip: Duplux king suite overlooking the ferris wheel at night is one to have.
