The Hilton Adelaide has been around, like the pyramids, forever. Fortunately, the building itself is a triumph of good, solid hotel architecture; the rooms are well-proportioned, the bathrooms make sense and the eating areas are pleasant.
Always ask for a room on the 7th or 8th floors, which have been renovated in the latest Hilton style. (Even if you are Diamond, and can stay on the executive floors at the top of the building, you'll prefer the reno'd ones. Just get in the lift to do your free eating and drinking on Level 16).
Breakfast downstairs is good. And thanks to some changes in the kitchen (particularly the arrival of a Filipino/Australian head chef), dinner is now excellent. The King George Whiting (and yes, it is a cliche, but have it anyway) was as close to perfect as I've had in recent times. Okay, the ambience lacks a bit - okay, it lacks a lot - but the food overcompensates. Australian hotel restaurant food, particularly at the 5 star end, is generally woeful. Here's the exception.
This is not, however, a grand romance hotel. It is great for the stressed business traveller or the couple passing through town. Save your romance for a better city, like Melbourne.
Room Tip: Levels 7 or 8 have been renovated. The rest are clean but dated.

Dear Guest
Thank you for sharing your recent experience of Hilton Adelaide on Trip Advisor.
I am most certainly pleased you continue to enjoy your time with us and appreciate your loyalty.
As mentioned we have renovated some of our rooms in a more modern style and as a Diamond Hilton HHonors guest you can still enjoy access to the Executive Lounge from these floors.
We are very proud of our Seriously South Australia food philosophy, headed by Executive Chef Dennis Leslie, and extend the South Australian menus to all of our dining offerings.
We also hope to fully renovate the restaurant within the next 3 years to add to the ambiance of the dining experience. In the interim, we will be doing some soft renovation such as changing artwork and arm chairs to give it a more spphisticated look and feel. I will be looking forward to your comments.
Thank you again for your review and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.
Yours sincerely
Michael Schmitt
