“Comfortable but getting a bit worn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2012

I stayed at the Hilton for one night in December 2011. Staff are very efficient and well-trained. The rooms are generously sized and comfortable but the hotel overall just feel like it is getting a bit long in the tooth and is in need of a serious refurbishment.

Room Tip: I would suggest asking for a high room as I think they would be quieter

Dear Guest
thank you for your feedback following your recent stay at Hilton Adelaide. I apprecaite your kind word regarding the team and the guest room you occupied.
We do have a rolling room refurbishment program in place and are constantly renovating when occupancy allows. We are looking forward to a full renovation of our Ground Floor food and beverage outlets staring with Charlies Bar to create a new cocktail lounge bar reopening in September/October this year.
We hope you can return to the hotel in the future to see the work we will be doing on the lower floors.
Yours sincerely

“Expectations unmet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

We once stayed at the Hilton Dubai and the standard of accommodation was high. Sadly, our experience at the Hilton Adelaide, marred our stay in that wonderful city. We booked a non smoking room. The room we were allocated was a smokers' room. Consequently, the room smelt stale and lacked a feeling of cleanliness and freshness. The carpet was undulating and one of us tripped and almost fell. We rang the number given for the manager who was not on that number. We were told the manager would ring us back and he did. We explained our concerns and he said there was little he could do that day as the hotel was full. He said he would try to move us to a different room the next day. We asked if the carpets in all rooms were undulating. He replied "not all". He told us that a note would be put under the door when a room was available. The next day, we returned from a day's sight seeing in the afternoon. No note. No message. Some time later, we went to get something from our suitcases and discovered they were missing. We rang reception, who made some inquiries, and informed us that they had been moved to another room. We then had to make several trips to carry our unpacked belongings to new room. A breakdown in communication. It happens. However, we heard nothing further from the manger or housekeeping manager. We thank the manager for relocating us. However, we believe that the standard of accommodation initially allocated did not match the Star rating. The replacement room almost met a 4 star rating (our opinion based on 40 plus years of worlwide trave). The breakdown in communication and the removal of our suitcases, leaving other property in drawers and cupboards, was not addressed. Hilton Hotels will not be considered by us on future trips.

Room Tip: On Check in, ensure that you are allocated the room you have paid for. In our case, it was a non smo...

Dear Guest

Thank you for sharing your recent experience of Hilton Adelaide on Trip Advisor.

Naturally I was disappointed to read your review and regret any inconvenience caused by the breakdown of communication of our team,

We do have a rolling room refurbishment program in place. We will continue the program in the middle of this year completing three more floors to bring them into line with the remainder of the hotel rooms.

At this time of the year the hotel is regularly 100% occupied hence why it took a little longer to find you an alternate room.

I do apologise that the team moved your belongings without your consent and our Executive Housekeeper will review this procedure with her team.

I appreciate that we did not meet your expectations on this occasion and would encourage you to contact me personally so I may speak with you further regarding your stay with us.

I can be contacted on adelaide@hilton.com.

Thank you again for sharing your review and I look forward to speaking with your further.

Yours sincerely

“A good business hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

The Hilton Adelaide has been around, like the pyramids, forever. Fortunately, the building itself is a triumph of good, solid hotel architecture; the rooms are well-proportioned, the bathrooms make sense and the eating areas are pleasant.

Always ask for a room on the 7th or 8th floors, which have been renovated in the latest Hilton style. (Even if you are Diamond, and can stay on the executive floors at the top of the building, you'll prefer the reno'd ones. Just get in the lift to do your free eating and drinking on Level 16).

Breakfast downstairs is good. And thanks to some changes in the kitchen (particularly the arrival of a Filipino/Australian head chef), dinner is now excellent. The King George Whiting (and yes, it is a cliche, but have it anyway) was as close to perfect as I've had in recent times. Okay, the ambience lacks a bit - okay, it lacks a lot - but the food overcompensates. Australian hotel restaurant food, particularly at the 5 star end, is generally woeful. Here's the exception.

This is not, however, a grand romance hotel. It is great for the stressed business traveller or the couple passing through town. Save your romance for a better city, like Melbourne.

Room Tip: Levels 7 or 8 have been renovated. The rest are clean but dated.

Dear Guest

Thank you for sharing your recent experience of Hilton Adelaide on Trip Advisor.

I am most certainly pleased you continue to enjoy your time with us and appreciate your loyalty.

As mentioned we have renovated some of our rooms in a more modern style and as a Diamond Hilton HHonors guest you can still enjoy access to the Executive Lounge from these floors.

We are very proud of our Seriously South Australia food philosophy, headed by Executive Chef Dennis Leslie, and extend the South Australian menus to all of our dining offerings.

We also hope to fully renovate the restaurant within the next 3 years to add to the ambiance of the dining experience. In the interim, we will be doing some soft renovation such as changing artwork and arm chairs to give it a more spphisticated look and feel. I will be looking forward to your comments.

Thank you again for your review and we look forward to welcoming you again soon.

Yours sincerely

“Perfect location in Adelaide”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

Stayed over a weekend on the executive level. Overall thnis hotel needs a refresh and seems stuck in the 90's on some of its decor. The room was fine with good soaps and shampoos provided, but had only one generic print on all the wall, which made a sort bare feel about the room.Had access to the executive lounge and the staff were great but again lounge somewhat dated and breakfast pretty basic with cold food options only. The breakfast in the downstairs restaurant was much much better. Parking is a bit steep at $30 a day but I suppose its city prices, still a bit dear I think. Easy walk to the city and next store to the markets and also a great selection of asian restaurants. This is certainly not the cheapest place in town and probably not the best but was a good stay none the less. The pool is very small and more importantly very cold, making being in it for too long not enjoyable-this surely does not have to be the case.Overall great staff, great location but needs a facelift.

Room Tip: I would request a room facing the park as better views of city and Adelaide Hills.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your review of Hilton Adelaide on trip advisor. I thank you for your kind words reflecting the location of the hotel along with our team and room amenities.

I did note your feedback regarding the décor of our rooms. Our modern and recently refurbished deluxe rooms do have a minimalistic theme to them where as our Executive & Deluxe Plus rooms have a more timeless look and feel with more artwork apparent. The wood finishes in the Executive Lounge align it with the Executive rooms and notably the facilities and soft furnishings of the Lounge have only just been updated.

Thank you again for your time and we hope to see you back in Adelaide at the Hilton soon.

Yours sincerely

“Great location and comfortable rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012

We stayed 2 nights (not consecutive) so we had 2 different room types. The first night we stayed in a king Hilton deluxe room overlooking the front of the hotel, this room was a good size and very comfortable – however the bathroom was very small, we were close to the lift and were dreading it – however it turned out ok and not noisy at all. We arrived in our room at 10pm and thought we’d order some room service for dinner. When we looked at the menu everything said to 10pm, so we thought we’d ring anyhow… the phone rang and rang and rang. So we opted to go for a walk outside the hotel to nearby China town. We found a great little place called ‘taste East’ so boohoo to the Hilton and we were winners. When we got back to the room we noticed that on the menu there were symbols next to some of the meals that said all night dining, Doh! Oh well you don’t answer the phone and you loose an order!.

The second room we stayed in another type of room (unsure what it was called) however it was an upgrade from the deluxe room and it was in the far back corner that overlooked Grote St and it was the worst sleep we had. Construction began early in the morning of nearby office buildings, we heard heavy drilling and reversing lights of trucks. Even although the room was an upgrade I enjoyed the stay and feel of the first room more.

Apart from the early morning rise, we enjoyed our stay at the Hilton and would consider staying here again. It is located right next to the central market which also has a Coles and many other shops in it. Even if the market isn’t open, other shops are. We found it odd that the market didn’t open on a Sunday. The Hilton is also within easy walking distance of China town where there are many restaurants to choose from.

The supply of soap, shampoo etc in the room is good in fact I loved the scent of the body wash. The staff were very friendly and the gentlemen at the front door were very helpful and attentive. They also have a pillow menu

Room Tip: Aviod rooms near the back corner over near Grote Street until the constructon work is finished..

Dear Guest
Thank you for your observations of Hilton Adelaide.
Naturally I was pleased that you enjoyed your overall enjoyment of the hotel and our location in Victoria Square.
I do regret that our room servcie team missed your call as we do indeed offer a 24 hour servcie in this regard. There is the occassional time when the team are delivering items to rooms however the call should then divert to our front office.
I am also disappointed that external construction interferred with your sleep and apprecaite your understanding of our control over this type of noise.
We have just updated our bathroom amenities so thank you for your review of the new products.
We look forward to welcoming you again to Hilton Adelaide soon.
