We stayed at the Intercontinental in a King Club room for one night over the weekend. We had purchased the room on a 30 day advanced purchase, which makes it quite good value. We arrived about 9.30 in the morning, but a room was available and so we were checked in and went straight up, which we appreciated greatly. The room was not big, but was well appointed and comfortable. The Club lounge is excellent and open from 7.00am to 9.00pm with breakfast in the morning, afternoon tea and drinks available from 5.30 to 7.30 in the evening. Internet access is no longer complimentary in the club, which is a pity. Service was very good overall. There was a slight hiccup with our bill, as we had been charged for use of the minibar despite not having used it, however, this was dealt with professionally by the checkout staff and no charges were made against our account. We didn't eat at the hotel, but after looking at the menu for the cafe we will next time. The beds are very comfortable but would be even better with a top sheet as well as a quilt as we got quite hot during the night.

“Very friendly staff, small management issues”

Throughout our stay of two nights all staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the valet parking staff who were excellent. The hotel decor is dated but it is very clean and well maintained. Our room was reasonable spacious and the bathroom a very good size, with a large separate shower with great water pressure and a deep comfortable bath, great for soaking (grab a couple of bath bombs from Lush in the mall). The Elemis amenities in the bathroom are high quality and big smiles for having three towels (what girl does not like a towel for her hair). Only one bathrobe was a bit odd though, maybe it was an oversight?

Only issues were breakfast on Sunday, 10 minute wait to be seated, 10 min wait at coffee machine and just about every food station empty (on Saturday morning it had been excellent). Staff could just not keep up and appeared to lack direction and specific tasking. We had a 4pm check out as part of our package but on return to our room at 2pm found ourselves locked out and had to go down to reception to sort it out, then around 3.30pm while showering had housekeeping knocking on the door wanting to service the room. We would have given a top rating if these issues had not arisen as we really enjoyed our stay.

The management team here were all disappointed to hear about your below par breakfast experience and a full review of the restaurant procedures, food availability and overall breakfast operation has already commenced and we will use your comments to assist us in improving Riverside Restaurant.

I am also delighted to confirm that we are currently reviewing a number of exciting design proposals to refurbish the property with work commencing mid 2012 with completion in 2013.

“Back to the 80's”

Great location and beautiful river views but hotel is dated. Staff are friendly but service is slow and a little incompetent at times. Breakfast is standard fare but noi very exciting. Overall I expected more from an Intercontinental

“Five star hotel with zero customer service”

We were at Inter Continental for High Tea which was one of our Favourite place. This time the service was pathetic very disappointing. The girls who was serving us dropped hot tea twice on my hubby's hand and also on our guest. She dropped tea on our mobile phone twice and not even once she apologized. She was dropping crockery. Over all her body language & service was so rude. It was our treat for our friends. I wish I had taken them some where else:(

When I called twice to complain I was told someone will call me back. I guess the boss is as rude as the staff because till today no apology from anyone, what a shame! Five star hotel with zero customer service

“OK - very dated, trip back to the 80s”

The place emanates grandeur of a bygone era - very 80s indeed. The whole place needs a thorough refurbishment (the red marble bathroom was particularly noteworthy).

That said, the staff were all very professional and friendly, valet parking, and the room was clean (as clean as a place this old can be). Great location as well - a short walk to Hindley St.

I'd sooner choose the Oakes Plaza Pier at Glenelg next time - more modern and better views.
