We had planned a work meeting in Melbourne, and chose the Novotel for its central location, primarily. We had booked a board room and accommodation for 8-10 people, and although we didn't know this particular hotel, we knew the Novotel chain well, particularly in Australia, where we have collectively stayed in the Novotel in Darling Harbour, Sydney, on many occasions.
I can say without reserve that this Novotel was far superior (although also significantly cheaper) than it's counterpart in Sydney. From check-in through to check-out, the service really is exemplary - staff going out of their way to be courteous and helpful, which really isn't always the case. The boardroom was fine, although with no windows, and some of us had access to the internet thrown in as part of the package.
We had booked the Premier rooms, which were spacious, although the view onto the interior of a shopping mall was a little odd; especially with the huge floor-to-ceiling windows. The room was spacious, well-fitted and comfortable however, and I always managed a very good night's sleep.
The food, whilst not exceptional, was certainly of a decent standard, but really, when you are staying in the centre of town, there is no excuse not to venture out in the evenings.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Novotel on Collins for any business need.
