“Nice Ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012

Unfortunately we arrived very early in the morning and the concierge was not that helpful. We found the rooms comfortable, and the general feel of the place quite "homely". It is certainly conveniently close to the City,Chapel St ,St Kilda, South Melbourne and Albert Park.
The lovely reading room, billiards room, restaurant and balcony add to the ambience. We did find the bathroom a little squeezy, with the space between sink, toilet and shower a bit tight.
Overall a nice place to stay.

Dear Stew_rol,

Thank you for posting your review.

I am pleased to hear that the room you had was comfortable and enjoyed the homely feel. I sincerely apologise for the receptionist for not being helpful upon your arrival, this is not to our normal service standards.

Perhaps on your next stay you could book one of our lovely Premier Rooms, the bathrooms in these rooms are larger. They also have special treats such as homemade chocolates on arrival, plunger coffee and bathrobes to enjoy during your stay.

We hope to welcome you back soon.

Kind Regards,

Gabrielle Chisholm

Although not that cheap, this hotel is a lovely place to stay. Well located (a tram ride to town or beach!) and a great reception staff. Truly recommended.

Dear wferreira,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed the service you received from the reception staff. I will be sure to pass your comments onto them.

January is a busy time in Melbourne due to the Australian Tennis Open, which may contribute to the rates being slightly higher during your stay.

If you head to our website or facebook page, perhaps you can take advantage of our special offers and deals for your next stay with us.

We hope to see you soon.

Kind Regards,

“Lovely historic property”

The Charslfield hotel is a lovely historic property - but beyond that, it was really convenient. Every day the concierge provided us with our transit passes, and we were able to hop on the trams that passed the door every 2 minutes and took us to all parts of the city.

“Old World Charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

An old style mansion turned into an up market hotel located on St Kilda Road about 15 minutes by tram from Federation Square and Flinders Street. The moment you walk in the door you realise you have stepped into something elegant with old world charm. The restaurant serves great food in a charming ambience and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. There is a comfortable lounge and reading room with computer and internet access, a billiards room and large meeting room for corporate use. For those seniors with reduced mobility we suggest a ground floor room is requested as there is no elevator to the first floor and bags have to be carried up stairs. Also our bathroom in the junior suite was long and narrow with reduced space between the edge of the washbasin, toilet and opposite wall which movement somewhat restrictive. However our stay was very pleasant and we would visit again.

Room Tip: There is some road noise from passing trams but not sufficient to be a major problem. If this will b...

“Nice place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed here on our wedding night, and loved it. It's a very charming house, and the people working there seemed nice. They gave us a bottle of sparkling wine for free when we told them it was our wedding night, and we really appreciated the gesture. We would have loved to have stayed longer and explored the house a bit more, perhaps trying the pool table, but unfortunately we didn't have the time.
