The Celestion Waldorf Apartment Hotel, is a very nice hotel, located within walking distance of downtown and the port but just off the beaten track enough to cut down on any noise that sometimes comes with either of those. When we arrived it was way before check in but they had a room ready for us and it was a very nice room. The name says “Apartment Hotel” and they are serious. It was a complete efficiency apartment with a bedroom, bathroom, spare room with a couch (that we used to dump our luggage in) living room and kitchenette. The service was good, the room was clean and if we had any complaints or a warning there would be two. One, we were on the 12th floor and had the worst water pressure ever. It just piddled out. I should add that other friends who were staying in the same hotel but on a lower floor had great water pressure. Secondly, be careful if you stay there. There is tile in the bathroom and the kitchen area (as well there should be) and the rest of the room is carpeted. But there is steel moulding that runs around in between them. Whatever you do, don’t step on either of these in bare feet. YIKES! That hurts bad.
We didn't pay a great deal for our room, so I wasn't expecting much. However I was nicely surprised upon our arrival to see just how good this hotel was. Our room was a great size, clean, the amenities were great and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The location is just fantastic. It was only a 5 - 10 minute walk to the viaduct, main shopping areas and the tower. My only criticism relates to parking, there is only one parking bay to load and unload a car, so we had to wait a while for it to be free and it was difficult to get out once you were in. Also the hotel does provide car parking, however it was offsite (5-10min walk). Another thing to note is that there is only one lift in the hotel, so there was a long wait to get the lift down to the foyer at check out time. Overall, we really liked this hotel, and we intend to stay here again when we return to Auckland.
I lived in Auckland for more than 20 years until I took up an assignment in the Pacific. I was back home for a visit and needed a place to stay for four days. After much reading of reviews and comparing of hotel options, I nervously booked the Celestion Waldorf. I couldn't have chosen better! The receptionist was friendly and welcoming and I was upgraded to a two bedroom apartment which made for a great start. It was new, very clean and tastefully furnished, surprisingly quiet for an inner city apartment. I even had a small view of the harbour from my sunny balcony. For me the location was perfect, close to the Les Mills Britomart gym, a large supermarket with extended shopping hours, the waterfront, Queen Street and the High Street shops...I didn't need a car. I would recommend it without hesitation and will definitely stay there again.
I only stayed one night on a visit to Auckland but would have gladly stayed longer. The reception service was quick, efficient, and competent. The two bedroom apartment was modern, spacious, had a good range of equipment and a effective heat pump. Its handy to Queen St, the waterfront, Foodtown and Vector arena. I dined at Little India on the ground floor and would recommend them for an enjoyable and tasty food along with great service.
The only minor issue was no alarm clock in the main bedroom for those wanting an early morning start. I didn't need parking, although that could be a problem on Anzac Road with little street parking.
