“Another way to visit Fes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 December 2011

We stayed a few nights ar riad Le Ksar de Fes in november. The riad is located in the countryside, approximately at 30 minutes of Fes medina (in car). This riad allows you to enjoy Fes surroundings as well as all the city's sights, but you'll definitively need a car if you choose this location.

We stayed in a douaria, which gave us a lot of privacy. It was really great and decorated with moroccan crafts. Everything was clean and, even if the nights were cold, the heating system and, most of all the fire that was made every night in the fireplace, kept us warm. The fire gave a special charm to the place! We've been living in Morocco for several months now and tasted different moroccan plates, but the tagines and couscous we ate at Le Ksar de Fes were the best we experienced until now. The riad's cuisine was really an highlight of our stay.

The service at the riad was excellent. We were greated at our - quite late - arrival and, even if we had not specified we intended to dine at the riad, there was (excellent) food for us. We booked a guide to tour the medina through the riad and were very happy about the tour and the guide.

I would definitely recommand this place to anyone who wishes to visit Fes differently. Staying in the countryside will allow you to enjoy the city as much as it surroundings, which are great. Also, if you're a food lover, this place is for you!

“Fourth visit and as a wonderful as the first time!”

This is a magical place to stay and it's just 7 minutes drive (or a cheap taxi ride) from Fes Saiss airport yet it's in the countryside near a small village. If you're visiting Fez and want a Tuscan country house type experience which is rare here, then this is the place!

Golfers will love it here - The Royal Golf Club Fez is two minutes up the road and very pretty, and Riad Le Ksar De Fes can organise golf breaks - ask or email the owner Pascal in advance.

It's almost impossible to fault Riad Ksar...The staff are very welcoming, the rooms large and comfortable with immaculate, fresh white sheets and duvets and lovely authentic artistic touches, even the lamps in the bathrooms are beautiful (!) When you wake up and open the shutters you look out across fields and the shimmering blue pool, while at night you can see the lights of Fez twinkling in the distance.

There are so many reasons we love this riad - it's modern, so it's warm or cool whatever the weather, it's comfortable, it's welcoming and it's set in the sort of surroundings you'll find it hard to leave. If mint tea next to an olive tree by the pool under a bright blue Moroccan sky sound good, you can get chill out here for a day before venturing into the medina or further afield up into the stunning mountain area of Ifrane where there's even a ski station (it snows up there in winter). Pascal and his lovely wife Khadija are so welcoming, we feel more like friends than guests each time we stay here. Next visit December or January, it's hard to keep away :)

Highly recommended, a beautiful place to stay (delicious breakfasts and tajine dinners too).

Room Tip: There is a Royal Suite or two with its own roof terrace, all rooms are quiet and beautifully furnish...

“Loved it very much.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

We stayed here for 2 nights, we did not like Fez at all, but this hotel is worth coming and staying to! The food is excellent, the room was excellent, nice pool. The staff is really nice and accommodating. And speak good english and excellent french.

We stayed here at Ramadan and they don't have a cook in the morning so you will get the bread of yesterday at breakfast, this is a minor, but not a big one, just find yourself one of the many good patisseries in the new town.

Diner is excellent here but it will cost you 20 euro's per person, and if you ask for a glass of wine, they will open a bottle of 12 euro's. It is worth it though!

It is really quiet at the hotel, which is nice if you want to escape all the ruckus and hassle that you normally have in big cities.

All in all, we wont come back to Fez, but we will definitely stay here if for some reason we do end up in the neighborhood.

Room Tip: Any room is good in this hotel.

“excellent BUT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2011

a) don't bother staying in Fez medina because
- nothing to do in evening
- dangerous anyway to walk round and you'd get lost even if you wanted to walk about
- visit for daytime only and ONE DAY only will suffice -Marrakesh much more tourist friendly .
SO ON TO HOTEL
b) very relaxing and lovely people running it who speak good enough english and could not be more helpful .
c) hotel is really a country house 35mins by car from Fez and very isolated apart from local golf course if you like that .
d) so you NEED to have car or taxi to Fez is 150MAD each way .
e) don't expect historical setting or luxury but it's clean and has a nice pool ( too cold when we were there -it rains in April and is cold just like England!!)
f) food is v.good and hotel is only 2 years old so roof top BBQ area will be open for next season and will improve matters again .

so for service I'd give 5 stars , choice of hotel based on competition and price -again 5 stars but really why bother with Fes as is long way to drive/travel from Marrakesh and the Desert / Atlantic coast is a better bet .

Room Tip: we had smallest room i think so who knows !

“Heavenly Stay But With 1 Small Flaw”

Overall there is no sense to add more excited descriptions from my part to describe this riad, this is superb & fantastic, we were delighted so much by Ksar de Fes.

However fellow travellers have to know that there is no TV in all the rooms! I was a beat surprised to say it frankly...What was the idea in fighting television I can't realize.
And this riad is a beat hard to find, we had to ask locals where it is, should owners improve navigation/ access details on their & other web sites.
