Back to the Oriental Hotel for the third time, I still cannot find fault with it. This hotel is just perfect! This time it seemed even busier than before, and you may find yourself waiting to get a table at the wonderful Verandah Restaurant, but it's definitely worth the wait. For starters I recommend you go for the delicious pomelo salad or the most tantalising Tom Yum Goong soup you've ever tasted, followed by one of their spicy seafood dishes or a curry (try the duck in red curry) as a main course, and, if you've still got room for it, taste their sticky rice with mango, or, if you need something a bit lighter, a scoop of their green tea ice cream for desserts. After that, you might want to do some sightseeing. It's a good idea to make use of their shuttle boat service to Sky Train Station Saphan Taksin just round the corner (it'll spare you the walk or tuk-tuk drive to the station). Or, if you want to enjoy the hotel's facilities some more, take a dip into one of their fantastic pools surrounded by lush tropical plants. Heaven! Make sure you also have some spare time to enjoy tea or coffee in the beautiful author's lounge some afternoon. Likewise, you shouldn't miss out on having a pre-dinner cocktail in their (redecorated) wonderful lobby lounge, accompanied by some classical music, before you head off to their famous riverside buffet dinner (don't forget to make a reservation though; it's crowded until midnight every evening.) To finish a perfect day at the Oriental, spend an hour (or two) in their popular Bamboo Bar listening to some world class jazz.
All in all, the Oriental will always remain one of my top favourite spots in the world. I'm looking forward to going there again soon for yet another unforgettable stay.
