“Deserves its reputation as the best hotel in the world”

Back to the Oriental Hotel for the third time, I still cannot find fault with it. This hotel is just perfect! This time it seemed even busier than before, and you may find yourself waiting to get a table at the wonderful Verandah Restaurant, but it's definitely worth the wait. For starters I recommend you go for the delicious pomelo salad or the most tantalising Tom Yum Goong soup you've ever tasted, followed by one of their spicy seafood dishes or a curry (try the duck in red curry) as a main course, and, if you've still got room for it, taste their sticky rice with mango, or, if you need something a bit lighter, a scoop of their green tea ice cream for desserts. After that, you might want to do some sightseeing. It's a good idea to make use of their shuttle boat service to Sky Train Station Saphan Taksin just round the corner (it'll spare you the walk or tuk-tuk drive to the station). Or, if you want to enjoy the hotel's facilities some more, take a dip into one of their fantastic pools surrounded by lush tropical plants. Heaven! Make sure you also have some spare time to enjoy tea or coffee in the beautiful author's lounge some afternoon. Likewise, you shouldn't miss out on having a pre-dinner cocktail in their (redecorated) wonderful lobby lounge, accompanied by some classical music, before you head off to their famous riverside buffet dinner (don't forget to make a reservation though; it's crowded until midnight every evening.) To finish a perfect day at the Oriental, spend an hour (or two) in their popular Bamboo Bar listening to some world class jazz.
All in all, the Oriental will always remain one of my top favourite spots in the world. I'm looking forward to going there again soon for yet another unforgettable stay.

“Outstanding, as always.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

Our family of 3 stayed in the Premier room (Garden Wing) which gave us more privacy by not having to often pass through the busy lobby to access the hotel's other facilities. As usual, all our needs were catered to and beyond that , our room was cleaned with a replacement of fresh flowers and fruits even on departure day! My only disappointment which I totally admit as a fault of my own was not being able to reserve an outdoor table at the"Terrace Rim Nam" for dinner's first service. I will make sure to reserve well ahead on our next visit .

Room Tip: Room 461 (fantastic river view) is right underneath the kitchen of "Le Normandie" . Noise...

“Still the best hotel in the world...”

What is making this place so unique ... ? The Perfect Service !
At our arrival, Oriental arranged for us an Escort ( fast track service ) at Suvarnabhumi Airport : this is absolutely fantastic ! No waiting, no walking, no boring immigration files : everything is managed by 2 Oriental Agents. After a 45 min drive in a Black 7 Series BMW Limousine with Oriental discreet Logos, a very gentle Hotel Agent is bringing you directly to you room, without passing by reception desk. Regardless of your room category, every single person on you way is greeting you like a King and like a good Friend in the same time , with a large, sincere smile and thai hand respectful greeting gesture. Even the lift-boy is kind, elegant and friendly like no other in the world. Our room, on the 15th floor, was a deluxe (rather standard category) but this is more than enough : very comfortable bed, nice furnitures, very elegant bath, spacious shower. Try to start your day with yoga session : take the Hotel boat to the other side, gently stroked by the warm wind on Chao Phraya. Breakfast on the Terrace by the river is just gorgeous and you're ready for your day in Bangkok ! Ask the Hotel Butler for a ride on a long tale boat : for 50 € you will discover the city and the canals in a very original and typically thai way !
We spent only 3 days this time, but we can't wait to return to this unique place in the world, the place where the service is perfect !

“Still among the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2012 via mobile

The Oriental continues to excell and provide superior service and quality. Try the Thai restaurant on the opposite side of the river for a great Thai food experience. Take a pass on the Italian restaurant, it does not deliver as expected (food quality).

And for good reason. Total class. Great location. Beautiful room. Breakfast on the Terrace was a wonderful way to start the day. The spa was first rate. Just sitting in the lobby and watching the people was worth the price of admission. Very, very special place....
