“Almost a 5 star...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights, 2nd stay. This hotel feels really homely, its boutique, so not a lot of rooms and the staff has a lot of attention for you. Also the number of staff is not large, therefore staff get to know you ans remember your name, breakfast preferences etc.

Check in is smooth, and while you are being checked in you can choose your soap and will be told about options and facilities in the hotel. As many travelers have written, the "anytime, anywhere" breakfast concept is great. We ate breakfast around noon everyday, so we didn't need to have lunch but just dinner afterwards. Breakfast is very good, with great danish and croissants, good coffee and eggs cooked a la minute, and yu can have it where you want, at the pool, in the room, in the lobby etc.

The staff is the highlight of this place, everyone is smiling, very attentive and again, remember things you like, which is really 5 star, mind you they all wear flip-flops though!

The bar on the 1st floor is good, although it seems to bright and therefore is not utilized a lot, however service of the staff there was excellent. Had there my evening beers before going out.

We thought the spa is a bit overpriced and therefore didn't use it, however I believe they offer good treatments as other travelers write in their reviews.

They things we didn't like and therefore couldn't give it excellent rating:

The pool is quite small and the loungers were quite a lot in use, felt like being a bit cramped together with other guests.

The water in the pool was very cold, you cant really go for a long relaxed swim, its rather a dip to cool off. Pool is also black so can feel a bit murky after sunset, bit its too cold to swim at that time anyway.

We had slight stained towels in our room, and a torn pillowcase, which is not a big issue however it might need some attention.

Lot of mosquitoes (we had a ground floor room) but that's not the hotels fault but be aware with keeping the doors open in the evenings.

All together a pleasant 4 star hotel with almost 5 star service, staff is well trained and extremely caring, upkeep of the premises is very good, and the breakfast concept is a big plus.

Attention needed on some amenities and perhaps make the pool more swim able, however it might be of good temperature in the raining season.

The rooms also got private coffee and tea makers, and a stocked minibar. The beds are very, very comfortable.

Definitely recommended and we will be back.

Room Tip: Don't take a room with pool-access or close to the main road as it might disturb your sleep.

“A great stay - will return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2012

It was a pleasure to stay at this small hotel - calm and peaceful, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The first room we were shown, had a slight smell of smoke (and was near the road) however they immediately checked us in to another room which was better located and no smell of smoke. This was our 8th visit to Chiang Mai, but we had never stayed in this part of town, and we found, for us, that the location was great. Breakfast at anytime was novel, and the "anytime" check in, was v. convenient. Would recommend this hotel to couples/solo. If we can get a good rate again, we will definately return to this hotel

Room Tip: deluxe corner rooms are larger

“Fine Boutique Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2012

We arrived at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday which is not convenient ( eventhough we know this information ) but anyway very convenient for us to jump to walking street rightaway after check-in.

Only small problem occured with credit card authorisation upon check-in, assumed from credit card machine as I did give the receptioinist with 2 credit cards but still have problem.

The concept of welcome drinks selection from minibar and breakfast wherever and whenever is great !!

Staff are friendly and attentive - compliments !!

“Courteous, Friendly and Welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

the overall ambience of this hotel was like a breath of fresh air after a long flight arriving late at night & being welcomed with their infamously 'best' room and being given WiFi, told breakfast could be served in your room, by the pool or in the restraunt at any time of the day and finding that they'd conveniently loaded an iPod in your room with a bunch of known music to help relax.
The breakfasts were a delight and the secluded pool area was blissful to relax after a night of travel and discovery! The staff were always friendly and helpful in finding the best ways around Old Town and great attractions to see. The Walking Market was especially good, on every Sunday along the very road the hotel is on, probably the best market you'll find in Thailand.
The temples were amazing and places like Tiger Kindom and Patara Elephant farm where simply unforgettable.
In short I cannot wait to return to Chiang Mai, and I intend to enjoy a longer stay at U Chiang Mai.
Thanks for having us, and hopefully we can score the 'famous' room again :)

Room Tip: Anything by the Pool is awesome!
