No, it's just not possible...hands down number one.
I will try to break down this review in the most strategically constructive way, but in general - BEST HOTEL EVER. More importantly, will provide commentary below regarding pricing within the hotel, because I've read reviews that they jack up the prices, and I completely disagree. But first, the very good stuff.
Background: 4 nights, peak season, 4 friends, 2 rooms. Mid-20's. Gay, single, gentlemen (and yes most guests are either honeymoon/couples or families).
#1) Rooms: To die for, and me and my amigos stayed in the cheapest available room. The Infiniti pool is fabulous, the furniture is authentic/looks clean/fresh, the beds are so comfortable, and even though you are in what seems to be a fabulous tropical jungle, you do not feel one little bug on your four season-ified body. I secretly think they hand pick each mosquito and send them away to Phuket at night as to not disturb your precious stay.
#2) Estate Transportation: When you say pick me up, it's as if they already had a vibration monitor in the room that triggered a signal to get you, coupled with an internal mood evaluator that already knows where you'd like to be transported. Dining hall, beach, in town, etc. they already know! That's why this place is heaven - b/c God's angels are watching over you and know what you want/need/feel etc. But in all seriousness, it's a huge estate and if they did not focus on the intra-resort transportation, it would ruin the stay. They do it perfectly.
#3) Pricing: I really disagree with reviews that say this place inflates prices, etc. For a five-star resort, I was very surprised at the rates. They could have gotten away with far worse. Obviously the rooms are pricy (add 20% to your rate after service, taxes) but that's how it is. A) Breakfast - amazing breakfast meal with coffee/juice comes out to $25/person after tax-tip, etc. Not to mention the Baker comes out (with his bread like always to the tune of Beauty and the Beast) with croissants flying at your face for free. And not to mention that there is never a line/wait, that the waitresses remember you from day 1 so if you have special needs (soy milk, iced vs. hot coffee) they remember it and kindly state the obvious (like obviously you need amazing soy milk Mr. Ron - god forbid, we ruin your day with the horror of cow's milk). B) Transportation to and from town: Can I just say - for a resort that is 30 minutes from the Chaweng, they charge 700 BAHTS (~$22 dollars) for an air conditioned, non shady drive (again with towels and balloons of joy)...it cost us that to get back from town with the same stink tiny mobile from a local cab driver. Most places would charge you triple. Then, there was one night where we made a mistake and told the hotel to take us to one place, but turns out the place was out of business. We drove for an hour and the cab was lost - and we told the hotel the next day, and without hesitation they apologized and refunded us, even though it was our mistake to begin with (and they had warned us that we probably have the address wrong). C) Spa - did not use, so cannot say. We did authentic $2 dollar massages outside the hotel D) Drinks at the beach - $13 bucks with tax and tip. Not to mention they brought ice buckets by the 15 minute mark E) Lunches and food midday- again for a resort of this level, they DO NOT JIP U. Nothing is outrageous.
#4) Beach - SO beautiful. Private. Secluded. So many chairs that you can literally hop each and every hour depending on the angle you want from the sun. You can literally play musical chairs, and the employees would even sing for you if needed. Other resorts - you see traffic, etc on the beach. Not this baby! zeh best!
#5) Staff - bottom line, they actually hire folks with a brain. Cream of the crop locals. They get you, they have a good memory, they adjust to your style. I feel like there are meetings daily with who the guests are, who's covering who, etc. It's not normal. They are so friendly it's beyond.
#6) Views - we didn't really have one in our room. But the public views (entrance up top, dining hall, beaches) are SPECTACULAR. BUt as you know - room prices are correlated with views, so if a 24/7 view is a priority, then upgrade your room type.
The biggest problem is the trauma I am having right now as I sit in another 'five-star' restort in the Phuket area where I literally had to purchase an electronic tennis racket to swat bugs away from me. I recommend making this your last stop in Thailand, because you will be depressed to go anywhere else after.
1 real minor suggestion - bathrobes are eh. They are too thai - i need fluffy heaven, and the bathrobes seemed sort of hospital robe-esque.
Small note - the only competition for this hotel is the W, but only stay there if you really want modern/hip vs. classy-gorgeous. W is a W at the end of the day, and even though it's bad a$$, it still reeks of W brand. But, it's closer to town and has a cooler beach vibe (nice 10-seaters smack in the middle of ocean/pools). Then, if you're in you're someone who really wants to be in town center and go out hard (which is gross and mortified us) then stay @ The Library.
Room Tip: Don't choose the room on the beach. Ask for rooms as high up as possible.
