Having visited Phuket several times, I opted to stay away from the typical Beach area. As it turned out, a positive move!
Theme : Dara Hotel has the qualities that will appeal to those in search of stylish accommodation, yet is homely and comfortable, at very reasonable rates.
From at the reception area, to the cafe/restaurant (located next to the pool with a spacious lounge area) to the rooms, the decor beckons with a feeling much-welcomed, and different from any normal hotel.
Location : Away from the typical more commercialised beach area, but still within an easy drive when the mood dictates partaking in the sun & sea. This is a clear advantage as it allows visitors the chance to NOT miss out in exploring the other hidden gems that are away from the beach areas.
Lots of local eateries, do the local thing, you won't regret it. See/walk around the Old Town area ... there are spectacularly beautiful heritage buildings with architecture/aesthetics from a bygone era. The local market is a must-see as well.
If serious shopping is on the agenda, Central Festival, the shopping mall, is almost diagonally across the road.
Service : Notwistanding limited spoken-English, staff do their best in seeing to guests' requests and comfort, even arranging for on-site Thai massage service. This is definitely a plus ... getting a typical Thai massage (great price too!) within the comfort of Dara Hotel. Appreciate this point as the hotel ensures that guests do not get ripped off here.
Note : Kathaa (Ken) the owner, gives some really handy tips on what to see/do/eat around and away from the town area, His personal attention to guests' enquiries definitely adds to the full Phuket experience!
