“Concrete oasis!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2012

The Blue Lime Hotel is situated down a grubby street behind well concealed doors bang slap in the middle of Phnom Penh. The entrance welcomes you into a friendly reception area where we were greeted with plenty of smiles and beautiful fresh passion fruit drinks.

Our room, No 1, was right by the hotel entrance but noise was not a bother as there were two doors into the room. Every thing in this hotel is made of concrete including the bed base, shelves, sun beds etc. etc but it all looks good. The bed was comfortable but the two small microfibre blankets provided were totally inadequate as they hardly covered the bed so sleep quality was not good for us.

The pool area and gardens are delightful but beware there are visitors during the evening with four legs and very long tails. An earlier reviewer was correct about furry friends but these certainly were not mice they were rats and on the two nights we stayed we witnessed a rat each evening in the garden. The grounds are small and the sight of these friends put us off using the pool and pool area.

A very good breakfast is served in the small restaurrant by the pool - there was even muesli and yoghurt on the menu.

We only had one and half days in Phnom Penh which was enough for us to see the sights. It is a dirty grubby city and at the time of our visit it appeared as if the pavements were being dug up everywhere for new pipes to be laid.

Blue Lime is situated very close to the Royal Palace and other museums and also within an easy walk to the river front.

This was a very nice hotel and would receive a much higher review if the blankets were replaced by a duvet as we have had in all our SE Asia hotels so far and they deal with the furry visitors.

Many thanks for your kind review.

Rats are indeed a problem in South East Asian gardens. We use different kind of traps, a pest-control external company and ultrasound signals to scare them off. But some resist! I begin to believe the theory that these mammals will survive us in case of global nuclear disaster!

I agree duvets are more comfortable but not very eco-friendly as they require to set the A/C temperature much lower, which is an issue in a country that badly lacks power. Perhaps should we offer both for people to decide?

Cheers,

Alexis

“Excellent!!!”

This hotel offers the best service I have had in a hotel. Every morning you are enthusiastically greeted at breakfast by all staff before you are given a huge plate of fruit followed by a large breakfast of choice. The staff also held an expensive pair of pants for a few days as I left them in the hotel on the first of two visits. They were also happy to book bus trips to siem reap and were able to accommodate me by booking the front of the bus as I get motion sickness. Also you cannot go past their passionfruit juice you receive at breakfast and on arrival to the hotel- delicious.
Also a special shout out to the hotel tuk tuk driver Marty. Not only was he was a great driver, he has that smiling and happy Cambodian personality and went out of his way to make our stay in Phnom Penh special.
Fantastic location 5 mins from the river and practically next to the palace.
Only thing to say is we had a room on the top floor which is a few flights of stairs up but was a great thing after eating so much Cambodian food :) also a strong wifi signal in the room aswell.
Overall a fantastic choice. I would definitely stay here again.

“Private pool rooms are like paradise! Fantastic hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012 via mobile

My boyfriend and I stayed in two different rooms of blue lime- the first was a standard room with a balcony, actually really spacious! The stairs were no problem at all, neither was the shower. I was initially worried about the concrete furniture- but the rooms are actually bright and sunfilled, neither myself or my boyfriend got the 'prison' vibe mentioned in other reviews. Regarding the noise- we did hear the notorious dogs, but really it was no problem- they only barked for 2 minutes! My only tiny complaint about the first room is that in the morning it is a little noisy- but that is only because of echos from other guests. if you're an early riser (we aren't) then you'd have no problem. We also had a pool room which was AMAZING! very private- no one can see in at all, and actually the blue line pool room is cheaper, larger and nicer than the similar room at the pavillion. if you're tossing up between the pavillion pool room or blue lime, definitely go blue lime. Reception also have DVDs you can borrow to watch which is great. staff were ridiculously helpful, and so friendly. initially I stayed here because of the owner's policy on no sex tourists, but in the end there are so many positives to this place. I would seriously recommend to all of my friends and family coming here.

“An excellent alternative to its sister hotel The Pavilion.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

Having stayed at The Pavilion for the last two years we were disappointed that it was unable to accommodate us this year. Entirely our fault. We left booking too late. However, The Blue Lime proved to be an excellent alternative and was slightly cheaper. We spent four nights in the mini garden room, a spacious self contained room with a good funcional bathroom and a tiny but delightfully private garden area, adjacent to the pool. Our fifth night involved a move to a room in the main house which was spacious and comfortable, with a small balcony overlooking the street 19Z and the surrounding area. The only downside of this room was the climb up four or five flights of stairs (no lift) the final flight being quite precipitous. OK when you are young but for two senior citizens, albeit relatively fit and spritely, a bit of a challenge.
The hotel itself is very like The Pavilion in layout; the management connection between the two is obvious. Reception in the main house, a roomy area with plenty of seating accomodation and internet access available with the pool the central theme of the place and various annexes, including our garden room, leading off it. The staff are very friendly and exceptionally helpful, just as they are at The Pavilion. We could not fault them.
The poolside bar which is where you take breakfast was manned throughout the day and service was very good. Breakfast was, if anything rather better than that at The Pavilion but not much in it, except that the fruit plate was more generous and varied. In any event, it catered to our taste admirably. No complaints on that score. The poolside menu was limited but catered for most tastes and the food was well cooked and presented and while not in any way memorable, represented good value for money.
We really liked this place and would have no hesitation in returning, although we'd probably opt for one of the pool rooms at The Pavilion in preference if that was available. The Blue Lime is a good, honest boutique hotel with reasonable room charges and really ticks all the boxes unless you want to pay a good deal more. It's also very centrally placed for the best things to see and do in town. Highly recommended. Thanks to all the staff who helped make our final few days in Phnom Penh yet again such a pleasant experience.

Room Tip: The mini garden room was really nice. The top floor room in the main house is fine but be aware ther...

“Best of the bunch”

Within the royal palace vicinity I felt that this hotel was the best of the bunch. The pool and food was nice but the rest of the facilities were average. Not having a lift when you're on the top floor can be challenging mind you!!

The rooms are large but a bit concretey - not homely. The a/c I'm convinced did not work to full capacity.

I would stay here again by all means.
