“Home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2012 via mobile

Upon arriving at the hotel it was a break from the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh. The room was big and had all the amenities for a comfortable stay and the staff were always friendly and helpful. It was located very centrally to all the main sites and easy to get around by tuk tuk. Highly recommended for travellers to Phnom Penh.

“Chic and Comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Circa 51 served as my home during a week of business travel. This hotel offers modern renovations coupled with understated elegance supported by splendid customer service. I enjoyed morning breakfast and an evening refreshment poolside, Conveniently located, I walked to restaurants, establishments, and attractions. The staff did everything possible to make me feel welcome during my stay.

Suggestion: provide a hotel name card or other way to describe the location to the tuk-tuk drivers.

“If you have to stay in Phnom Penh then stay in this oasis”

Having spent 4 days in Siem Reap and loved every minute of it, we came back to PP and were immediately disappointed with the noise, smells, squalor etc. I suppose that's the price you pay for city life! It was an assault on the senses in every respect and twice as expensive as Siem Reap. The hotel, though, was an oasis and we couldn't have been made more welcome. They have an association with the Saffron restaurant and sent out for a takeaway on our arrival. The food was so good that we went to the restaurant to eat. Our departure was early morning and a very pleasant night porter awoke us on time with a simple breakfast that he had prepared for us. The hotel had arranged a courtesy taxi for us to the airport. I would not recommend PP to anyone, but, if you go there stay at Circa 51.

No, don't read that with an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice! But I will return to Circa 51, which is now one of my two favourite boutique hotels in Phnom Penh. First, I love the fact that the owners have saved and very tastefully renovated this 1960s house. The architecture of that time in this place is distinctive, and it's a shame to see all the demolition.

The location is great. It's within walking distance of the shops & cafes on Streets 240 and 178, but it's far enough from the riverfront that you don't feel as if you're in the tourist ghetto. The hotel's own menu offers local and western food as well as an extensive Pakistani and middle eastern menu. The staff members are all unfailingly warm and polite. (So is Maxie, the lumbering lummox of a yellow lab!)

It's a great little hotel, and I'll certainly reserve a room before my next Phnom Penh trip.

“Lovely hotel in perfect location”

We stayed here for 4 days and thoroughly enjoyed our experience - so much so we extended our stay....the hotel was built in the 50s and previously a propaganda media centre for the Khymer Rouge before being gifted to the returning Monarchy...the current owners have retained the original feel of the building with beautiful, spacious rooms with lovely pieces of furniture and art...the result is a very comfortable stay in a hotel with a unique charm...the hotel is situated in a leafy suburb a short walk from bars and restaurants and 10minutes walk from the Royal Palace..the courtyard garden has a beautiful pool and bar serving food and drinks all day...
Breakfast is freshly prepared and served by the pool...the menu consists of local, international and fantastic Pakistani curries which are highly recommended...
The hotel is run by a fantastic team of staff headed by a couple who are extremely helpful and friendly...recommending shopping spots off the beaten track and generally providing advice to make the most of your time in Phnom Penh..
This is a great hotel to enjoy peace and quiet in beautiful, relaxed surrounds...highly recommended...
