We booked our three nights stay at Willow Boutique Hotel on a very short notice. Since the beginning, their service was very efficient and cordial, and our reservation by e-mail was quick and easy. They only had a twin room left, so we asked if they could put the beds together, as to form a "double bed", but with the original mattresses. They say it would be possible, but when we arrived, it had not been done. Not a big deal, of course.
The first impression of this hotel was a very good one. Their lobby and common area are very relaxing, comfortable and well-furnished, and the building is very beautiful too.The front desk staff is very cordial and friendly. Our check in was smooth and quick.
The room, on the other hand, was a bit of a let down. Our twin room was very simply decorated (not what I would expect from a boutique hotel), especially the bathroom, which had exposed pipes, lacked tiles, etc. There was also a serious plumbing problem, so even a quick shower would flood all bathroom floor. The room had air conditioning, but it didn't seem to work very well, so we felt a bit uncomfortable sometimes. On the positive side, the room was good sized, had a nice TV with international channels, a mini-fridge, and a big safe, which was very useful for storing our laptop. The room was also very quiet, and that's important for me, as I am a light sleeper. The breakfast was included in the room price, and it was a very good one. It was served in the pleasant lobby, which was a plus.
The hotel is located a bit far away from the "tourist area" and the waterfront (a 5 or 10 minutes tuk-tuk ride, for US$2), but still in a good area, close to some nice restaurants and the independence monument. We enjoyed taking night walks in that area and we felt very safe.
We paid US$49,50 per night for our twin room and it was quite a lot for Cambodia and one of the most expensive hotels of our 30 days trip. If we only consider the room, it was not a good value for money, but the friendly service, the good breakfast and the pleasant common area, made up for it. Overall, it we had a good stay at Willow.
Room Tip: Our twin room was quite simple and not what we would expect form a boutique hotel. Pay attention to...
