This hotel is a hidden gem. It was recommended to us from a hotel nearby that was full and we were very glad we ended up here. When the word gets out, it will probably be totally booked all of the time.
We arrived here from a river front hotel that was noisy and dirty. The room here was like heaven after spending one night at the other place. It was very clean and everything in it appeared brand new. We were given a room on the second floor and had to enter through the boutique office (on the bottom floor of the hotel) which seemed odd at first but worked out fine after we got used to it.
The managers (who are French and Cambodian) and staff have worked very had to make sure the stay is comfortable. The front desk clerks have all been working on their English and are helpful and eager to ensure that your stay is enjoyable.
The room has air conditioning, a mini bar, a safe and a television with English channels. There are robes in the closet along with flip flops. The hotel does laundry if you need it. We were also given a plate of fruit when we arrived. The wifi in the room works great.
The bed was very comfortable and the linens were fresh and new. Our room had a somewhat funky bay window that had a door to our balcony. Without the curtains pulled, it became extremely hot so we had to keep them closed. This area actually worked out well for us because we were able to dry clothes in this area. Our air conditioning worked really well, so the heat from the window was not a problem.
The bathroom, which was off the bay window area, was very hot but we just kept the door closed. It was a nice size with a large shower and brand new toilet. There was a hair dryer, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and conditioner in the room. There was plenty of hot water but the shower pressure is a little low.
The pool is beautiful and a welcome break from the unrelenting heat in Phnom Penh. The staff immediately provides ice water and towels when you arrive at the pool which is a very nice touch.
The room comes with breakfast which was one of the best we had on our entire trip. Breakfast is coffee, a bread basket with croissants and french baguette, eggs, and juice. Everything was delicious, particularly the croissants.
There are a few negatives about the location but these can't really be helped. There is a bar/discotheque across the street which starts up around 8 pm and lasts until around midnight. The only audible portion of the music is the bass which at times was very hard to take. Maybe you get used to it after awhile but I was sick while we were here and along with my headache, it was pretty unbearable. The staff on the other hand went out of their way to try and help me which made the whole experience a lot easier to take. Make sure wherever you go in Cambodia, you carry ear plugs. They are indispensable.
You can walk to several restaurants from the hotel, but most places, like the market and the river front, you will need a tuk tuk if walking is not your thing. We walked everywhere from here, but it may be too much for some.
It is always easy to get a tuk tuk as there is one parked outside most of the time. Make sure you bargain for the price of the ride, or you will pay too much.
This is a great place to stay while you are Phnom Penh and well worth the extra money for a clean, comfortable room.
Room Tip: Pick a place in the back as far away from the street as possible.
