“Disgusting Place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We were forced into this place since Air Niugini had a "technical problem" and our flight was cancelled. I would never stay here if I had to. The hotel is rotten, linnen dirty and stained, so was the curtain at the window as well as the carpet. This the kind of place you keep shoes on all the time. Room doors are just thin wood so is the connecting door. Bathroom is late 60es design and not cleaned properly. Restaurant was reasonable for a 3rd world country. Beer expensive. The hotel is completely fenced and there are guard with guns standing around to protect this place.

Good Morning Berggerict,

Thanks uou for your comments regarding your stay with us in Novemebr 2011. It is disappointing to read that you found the hotel well below your expectations in terms of cleanliness. we have a very stringent set of systems and policies in place to ensure and standards are maintained, however from your comments it appears we have failed to maintain the standards in the room you stayed in. Please accept my apologies for this. I am also sorry that the design of the bathroom was not to your liking. The price of a beer at approx AUD4.80 we believe is a reasonable price and what you would expect to pay in mst parts of the world.

Again, thank you for your comments

“Most expensive in the Pacific”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Travel a lot in the Pacific Region and also a Platinum member of the Priority Club and may I say thatt this is the only hotel in the Priority Club Group that does not recognise you as a Platinum member. They should learn from Holiday Inn Suva in Fiji where they treat you as a VIP guest as part of the Priority Club Platinum member. The rooms are in need of renovation, however the improvement from my recent visit in September 2011 is the choice of many channels from cable TV. The room rate is defintely the most expensive I have stayed in the Asia Pacific Region. It was very noisy at night from the local vendors outside. Most secured hotel with very good security. Hotel transfer was good however they need an extra bus service as we waited nearly an hour for the bus to return and pick us up from the airport. Food was good in the fine dining area and the buffet was just ok. Reception service was too long for Priority member and there should be another check in/out service for Priority Clubs Members.

Room Tip: Rooms from Level 9 facing the Ela Beach side is quiter.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on your visit to the hotel. We certainly value the business provided by our Priortity Club memebers and thank you for being part of our loyalty program. we continually strive to improve the offering of our members and I have contacted our Holiday Inn in Suva to understand how they reward their members.
I am pleased to read that you enjoyed the larger offering of TV Channels. We would also like to hear if there were any preferences that were not in the available selection. We continue to work on providing a secure environemnet for our guests and I thank you for the positive feedback on our security department. As I have mentioned in earlier responses, we are continually liasing with the local autorities in an attempt to have the local vendors removed from around the hotel. I do hope to be able to report some success in the near future.

Kind Regards

“Reliable business hotel in the middle of Moresby - but very expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2011

A good, comfortable and clean hotel in the heart of Moresby. Views over the harbour and Ela Beach are good. Security is good. Food is good (but read the menu carefully). Gym equipment is a bit lacking, but OK (a new exercise bike would be good). Very expensive by international standards (but OK by Moresby standards).

Thanks you for taking the time to post your comments on your visit to Crowne Plaza Port Moresby. We have worked hard to provide food options that cater to our clients needs and are pleased that you enjoyed the food during your visit. We are in the process of increasing our offering in the Gym and will have more equipment by the end of October, including a new exercise bike!

Again thank you for your comments and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

“Big bucks for 3 star service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2011

Stayed 2 nights at the Crowne Plaza but could not sleep. Even though I was on the 7th floor, the noise (betel nut vendors, pedestrians, cars) from the motel across the road seemed non stop. Had strange people knocking on my door at odd hours of the night. Food is good but over priced. Ok hotel for business trips

Many thanks for your comments. The hotel is working with the local council in an attempt to have the vendors selling their items outside the motel mentioned removed. We will continue to pusue this as we are aware that this noise can make for a broken sleep.

Kind Regards

“Highly overpriced, badly in need of renovation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2011

I have stayed in this hotel several times (most recently in Feb and March) and the only reason was its excellent location within the Port Moresby CBD. For USD350 per night, this is one of the most overpriced hotel I have stayed in for the standard of rooms you get.
In my most recent stay, image my horror when the room I was allocated was in fact under renovation and they had to change my room - which there was no hot water. I was made to change room again. I paid for the executive floor with comes with complimentary bottled water but when I asked for it, the staff told me that they ran out of complimentary water but I can buy from the cafe. I have already paid a premium rate of the executive floor so as a matter of principle why should I pay again when you ran out of bottled water?? At my insistent, the reluctantly delivered 2 bottles FOC to me.
The card key do not work all the time and I have to made several trips to the reception to have it programmed. I was told they had problem with the card key but I have heard the same story during my earlier stay one month back. The gym was also old and tired with some equipment not working.
For those Priority Club members, check that they credit your points. I did not get one stay credited and despite 2 emails to PC - they did not have the courtesy to respond. I gave a receipt to the hotel on my next visit - again no actions was taken.
The hotel need to renovate badly but Port Moresby is short of hotel rooms and until new hotels are built, I do not see rates coming down nor facilities improved. There some options out of CBD and I would say they provide much better value (more expensive but world of difference in terms of rooms / amenites).

Room Tip: book early - hotel rooms are very short in PM

Thank you for your feedback on your stay with us in March. I apologise for the issues you encountered when trying to get the water which you were entitled to.

We are in the process of replacing the hotel locking system which will eliminate the issues encountered with your room key. This will be completed by the end of July. We have also purchased new equipment for the Gymnasium which will also be here by the end of July.

Again, thank you for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back to the hotel soon.

Kind Regards
