Situated about 10 minutes drive from the airport in the central government district, the Holiday Inn has definitely got location in its favour if you're in POM on business.
I was staying in one of the serviced apartments which was actually pretty comfortable. Bit of a mishmash of decor, the kitchen was old and a bit tatty but the bedroom was quite nicely (& recently) done. Good TVs in both the lounge and the bedroom too, had HDMI ports too so if you bring a cable you can watch any movies you might have through the TV rather than squinting at your laptop.
The kitchen definitely let the apartment down. Poorly equipped (no tin opener, little cutlery, no cooking knives) and in need of a lick of paint.
The restaurant and room service is OK, but the menu is limited so if you're there for more than a few days you'll probably find yourself using the kitchen quite a lot. Try the fire & ice pizza or the club sandwich though, I enjoyed both of those.
The pool bar's not the most exciting place, but set out in the gardens it's quite nice for unwinding with a beer after work.
The gym/sports club is well equipped, has squash and tennis courts too if that's your thing. Shame they've closed the running track to build the Holiday Inn Express next door.
Overall, the Holiday Inn is comfortable and feels safe, it's expensive but I guess you're paying for location. I think given the choice if there were serviced apartments available at Ela Beach Hotel I'd rather stay there, better restaurant and more life in the bar at night, but if I'm away from more than a few days I like to have my own kitchen.
