“Comfortable But Not Amazing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Situated about 10 minutes drive from the airport in the central government district, the Holiday Inn has definitely got location in its favour if you're in POM on business.

I was staying in one of the serviced apartments which was actually pretty comfortable. Bit of a mishmash of decor, the kitchen was old and a bit tatty but the bedroom was quite nicely (& recently) done. Good TVs in both the lounge and the bedroom too, had HDMI ports too so if you bring a cable you can watch any movies you might have through the TV rather than squinting at your laptop.

The kitchen definitely let the apartment down. Poorly equipped (no tin opener, little cutlery, no cooking knives) and in need of a lick of paint.

The restaurant and room service is OK, but the menu is limited so if you're there for more than a few days you'll probably find yourself using the kitchen quite a lot. Try the fire & ice pizza or the club sandwich though, I enjoyed both of those.

The pool bar's not the most exciting place, but set out in the gardens it's quite nice for unwinding with a beer after work.

The gym/sports club is well equipped, has squash and tennis courts too if that's your thing. Shame they've closed the running track to build the Holiday Inn Express next door.

Overall, the Holiday Inn is comfortable and feels safe, it's expensive but I guess you're paying for location. I think given the choice if there were serviced apartments available at Ela Beach Hotel I'd rather stay there, better restaurant and more life in the bar at night, but if I'm away from more than a few days I like to have my own kitchen.

Room Tip: You can't get wireless if you're up on the third floor. There's a free guest laundry on...

“Ok. Nice garden, good food. Expensive.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2011

Good facilities and good food. Facilities are a bit tired however a refurbishment program is underway. The gardens are nice.

If you are being picked up from the domestic airport, take your mobile as the courtesy phone is AWOL.

The hotel is expensive (even by Moresby standards). Better value elsewhere.

“At least the beds are good.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 March 2011

Overpriced, but thats Moresby. Good grounds, which means you wont go stir crazy if you are there for any length of time. The pool is good and the pool bar is a nice place for a drink. The decor is shabby and the airconditioners are breathless. You would write home about the food because you would still be chewing and couldnt speak. Honestly, that was my experience with a steak, But I have had other ok meals. But only ok. There are a few good restaurants in town, so if you have access to transport, go there for a change. Carparking is at a premium due to construction.
The beds are great. They are big and comfortable and the staff are helpful and friendly.
The whole place is due for a refurbishment soon, so hopefully it then will look and feel much better.
I have spent a lot of time in Moresby over the last 6 months and this is my preferred accomodation.

“Absolutely the worst 3 star hotel I ever stayed in.”

The facilities are old and dirty. Service is terrible even though I'm their vip member. Had to beg to be upgraded and they lied saying its full. They eneded up giving me a room with broken air conditioning and then had me move around and look at all the empty rooms till I found a decent one for the price I paid.

“Port Moresby Holiday Inn is close to the airport, has spacious rooms, nice staff, an OK restaurant and a garden bar.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2011

Summary:
Port Moresby Holiday Inn is close to the airport so is handy if you have an overnight transit stop (as was the case for me). It has good rooms and nice grounds. Staff are welcoming and helpful. The restaurant and bar are fine. Priority Club status is recognised.

Arriving at Port Moresby Holiday Inn:
A free airport shuttle is offered. You need to call in advance if you want a pick-up. Check-in was quick and friendly. My Priority Club status (Platinum) was recognised.

Port MoresbyHoliday Inn itself:
A pleasant enough 4-star hotel. The location and facilities were fine for an overnight stop. Like other hotels in Port Moresby, the hotel is surrounded by significant security.

Rooms:
My Garden Wing room was spacious with an excellent bed and a nice view of the pool and gardens. The bathroom was dated but ok.

Meals:
I had drinks in the outside garden bar followed by an al-la-carte dinner at the hotel's Kopi Haus restaurant. All fine.

Leaving Port Moresby Holiday Inn:
A free airport shuttle is offered. You need to book with reception. Check-out was quick and efficient. I departed at noon thinking to have lunch at the airport before my afternoon domestic flight. This was a mistake: the airport is a pretty bad place for eating and 1 hour is enough time for domestic check-in. I should have had lunch at the Holiday Inn first.
