I suppose there's a reason why Lamana is a favorite with mid-level extractive industry and NGO types. It's a safe and solid choice for Port Moresby at the price point.
Upside: Clean, comfortable but spare rooms, LCD TV, decent linens. My room was quiet (in the old block away from the disco). Restaurant dining was ok-to-good, at least for dinner. A nice piece of baramundi was seasoned nicely but overcooked. Side veggies were fine. An Indian food buffet was better, although expensive. Perhaps the best thing is the new fitness centre, Sparta. Although small and narrow, it has high quality treadmills and selection of other equipment. It was quite welcome as running around Moresby is not recommended. Overall, staff are quite friendly, helpful and service was responsive.
Downside: Room service was horrid: nauseating burger and "caesar salad" (my fault for ordering a "burger" and whatever the heck it was, it was not a salad). Breakfast was subpar, terrible little pastries, eggs cooked with incompetence. A bit more attention to breakfast buffet would be easy. Shower temp and pressure not consistent, many "my goodness" moments.
For a the UN room rate it was both ok (for Port Moresby) and gobsmacking (by international standards)
