We loved spending an afternoon at El-Fishawey during our trip to Egypt in December 2011! The sheesha, tea, and coffee was excellent, but the food was a real surprise! It was so good! We had the chicken and the falafel - each came with pita bread and salad. The portions were large and the food was the best we had during our stay in Cairo! It was fresh, well-prepared, and perfectly seasoned! Make sure to get the coffee at the end of the meal -its think and heavy!
As some of the reviews have already mentioned, its not the best part of town, right in Khan-el-Khalili (the bazaar) so there are many salespeople (men, women, and children) who come up to you constantly as well as beggars and shoe polishers who make their rounds. If you can tough it out in that environment, you will be fine! Also, there are cats EVERYWHERE in Cairo and really in all of Egypt, but they are pretty minxy here at El-Fishawey! At one point during our meal, my husband finished a piece of chicken and put the bone aside on his plate. One of the cats who had been hovering around the entire time, jumped up to our table, grabbed the bone and sped away! Its all part of the El-Fishawey and Egyptian adventure :-)
