“A second delightful stay at this hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We stayed at the Sheherazade for a week 2 years sgo, and have just returned from another 2 weeks (and plan another stay in 2014). This time we had a room in the new block, and, while the work is not yet completed, it was spacious and comfortable. The hotel suits us very well, being on the quiet and friendly west bank, close to the countryside and very convenient for the west bank sights. We even slept through the cockerel and the muezzin! The days were superb, but it was colder than expected after sunset (we had an efficient heater in the room). The staff were excellent, as before, and always very pleasant. The lack of tourists in Luxor was very sad for the local people, but great for those of us wise enough to be there.

Room Tip: We had 405 - a 'family room', sleeping four, and doubtless more expensive!

“lovely stay over christmas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This hotel is down a little Egptian street on the West Bank, very villagey feel, friendly locals, we had a lovely stay here Christmas 2011, clean comfy basic rooms, nice breakfast, nice gardens, on the west bank, so fun getting the ferry or a little boat when we wanted to visit the temples, and convenient for Valley of Kings and horse riding. Staff very friendly. Ooh I forgot to mention, there is a cockrel that sometimes crows in the middle of the night but that was fun too!!

Room Tip: room 306 was ours and was good

“Why isn't everyone travveling to Eygpt now and staying in this hotel?”

What a gem of a hotel- just far enough away from the tourist mecca that is the East Bank and yet a 5 min ferry ride away from its bustle, An oasis of calm, wonderful service and good food. Hire a bike from Mohammed's down the road and cycle to the Valley of the Kings, or arrange a relaxing Felucca ride with Abdul on the NIle and return to recuperate and rest from the sun in the shady garden inthe hotel or your air onconditioned, scupuloulsy clean room.

It is almost with reluctance that I give this review- we wanted to keep it all for ourselves and family! But the staff were so wonderful and they need the tourists to come back -so book now, stay here and visit the wonders of Eygpt without lots of other tourists in a once in a generation opportunity, It's safe, fascinating and you are ceratin of a great welcome..

“Charm, great food, warm staff on the West bank!”

If you are looking for a place with great charm, a smiling & very welcoming staff, great food, a quiet garden... then the Hotel Sheherazade is the place to go! Even if you don't have a room there, the simple but excellent food served in the garden is really wort it! We found there the best saldads of our Egyptian trip : try the Baba Ganough, or the greek salad: you'll become addicted ! (we did :-))
And each crossing of the Nile with the public ferry brings a renewed pleasure!

“The Real Luxor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2011

When we started planning our Egyptian vacation some months ago, we were drawn to Hotel Sheherazade by reviews on TA and elsewhere about the charming architecture, good food and accommodating owner and staff. Little did we know that we would be having an extended stay at the Sheherazade due to flight cancellations and airport closures during the recent political unrest. We could hardly have asked for a better place than here to while away some extra time in Luxor. Mohamed and his capable staff were more than accommodating. They were friendly, went out of their way to ensure our safety and comfort, and showed great sensitivity to our predicament. Granted, there were fewer guests than usual, but Mohamed made sure to keep us up to date on the news from Cairo and took time from his schedule to personally escort us on errands when conditions were unsafe for traveling on our own. Add all that to a convenient location on the West Bank - close to the ferry and shops - beautiful brick-dome construction, well-tended garden, good food and reasonable rates and you've got a great place to stay in Luxor.
