“A Near Perfect Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2012

We recently went to Hong kong on a business trip and stayed at this hotel. Although the place is located in the New Territories, this hotel does deliver the goods. It has got very spacious rooms. In fact, the room we got can accomodate 3 people. The view of the harbour from the room is simply fantastic. The bathroom is spacious as well and the area where the bathtub is has got a glass window which is transparent from the bedroom. The cafe serves probably one of the best breakfasts I have had. The noodle and congee bar alone is worth the trip. Areas for improvement though are the coffee and the service. Coffee should always be served piping hot and service should be impeccable for hotels like this one. If only the Chinese waiters and hotel staff could be trained well in listening and communication skills, then I guess I would have had a perfect experience.

Room Tip: Always pick the harbour view rooms because the view makes a difference.

“Wonderful out of the way hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2012

It depends what you go to HK for? Bright lights, big city? Don't stay here! Hongkong is full of fantastic wonderful hotels with great service - it is hard to choose which one to stay in and they all offer different aspects of staying in HK. The Hyatt Regency Shatin offers a very good hotel experience on the edge of HK and that means travelling about one hour to get into the centre. It is nearer to Kowloon Tong and the wonderful shopping centre there and the shuttle bus will take you to Tsim Tsa Tsui which is the other side of the harbour facing HK Island and so very central in itself. The rooms are big and comfortable and I would say 4 star standard. The breakfast buffet is wonderful. The service is excellent, The spa is excellent. I didn't like the fact that there is no place to sit in the lobby or just relax out of the room. They need to get a lobby bar - there is one attached to the coffee shop but it is not a relaxing place - it is a place that gets booked up for the lunch buffet or dinner buffet - this needs changing, every hotel should offer a lounge or place for guests to relax outside of room or restaurant. I loved the proximity to HK University and the trees and the more relaxed feeling. It suited us for our visit. But if you want the buzz of HK and the excitement of staying in the midst of one of the most exciting cities in the world - then this hotel may not be for you. Bear in mind though, that it is quite a lot cheaper than central HK hotels and if you don't mind 1 hour on the metro, then it may be the place for you.

“Solid effort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Built near university campus as a joint venture; next to tourism school. However, hotel is your regular high end Hyatt Regency effort. Rooms are a very high standard. Only 2 food outlets but both more than adequate. The Shatin 18 tends to be expensive for what it is, serving a mixture of local and somewhat sanitised local stables. A short walk to the local train station.

“amazing”

Wonderful room (big separate beds, big bathroom etc) with a good view. The price was nice when compared to tsim sha tsui prices. Gym was nice, a little ballet corner too,. And the swimming pool outside was nice too. Metrostation is like 100 m away and it is near the university. Metro to city centre took just a while. Breakfast was great, although it was quite expensive and not included to price. Staff was more than helpful, great tips for restaurants etc!

“A good hotel for the New Territories”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

You would not normally choose to stay over here if it is Hong Kong that you want ... but it is actually a good hotel. Situated above the University MTR station, which means you can get in and out easily, this is a somewhat soulless towerblock. But it houses a decent restaurant and the bedrooms are stunningly capacious. The service is impeccable. Choose a view over the estuary: it is more interesting even if it includes the patrol boat dock and the sewage treatment areas.

I had free wifi as part of the business packagae: very sensible considering its cost otherwise and when the server rejected me at 2am there was tech support in the room ten minutes later! This is Hong Kong - things work!

Room Tip: Go high up the block to the business class rooms at the top: they are larger and have superb views...
