“My review of Rumah Mertua.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We stayed in Rumah Mertua for two nights. Via email we were confirmed of 3 deluxe rooms but upon arrival only 2 deluxe rooms were available and one family room. It was late when we arrived and being tired we just accept whatever was available on hand. We only got to change to the deluxe room the next morning.

The deluxe room was spacious and comfortable. The room and bathroom was well taken care off.

The pool looks good even though we do not have a chance to swim as it was raining the whole of the two days we were there.

They also have the in-house massage service. To me, the masseuse was good and satisfying.

Overall the staff and services were good and satisfying. It is now in our must-stay list !

“service with a personal touch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

3N4D package for 2 plus 1 extra nite for deluxe room opposite pool. peace & quiet surrounding, away from noisy city but only 15 mins to malioboro by cab. fare is Rp 30K oneway which is cheap. friendly staff addressing guests by our names. welcome drink includes snacks & fruits sent to our room. breakfast is yummy with additional fruit juice javanese snacks & fruit platter. rambutan trees surrounding swimming pool. had rambutan fruits straight frm the tree plucked by hotel staff. thnks Suparyono. we brought home rambutans courtesy of the hotel. a birthday suprise for me from hotel staff during candle light rijsttafel dinner with a blackforest birthday cake.. and they sang birthday song for me ! rumah mertua is ideal for couples who wanna enjoy privacy...

Room Tip: deluxe room facing pool

“Very Good for a boutique hotel in Yogyakarta”

Travelled to Yogyakarta from 8th October to 12th October. Booked the family room and the Deluxe room with Pool View. There were renovation works by Rumah Mertua's neighbor during our stay but that didn't matter us much as most of the time we were not in the hotel.

This place is definitely for couples. Clean, nice garden with romantic settings and surroundings. Breakfast was fine. Not much variety for lunch & dinner menu, so we packed our food from nearby stalls most of the time. The staffs are kind enough to lend us their plates & utensils.

Room service was good. Pool was good. However, massage service was truly bad. We had our 1 half hour massage in-room. Paid the price but quality was very bad. We can't feel the pressure and definitely the masseuse were not professionals. I totally do not recommend the massage.

Would have given a 5 star rating if not for the lousy massage.

Room Tip: Wifi in deluxe rooms only. No fridge & safe in family room.

“Great spot for anniversary celebration!”

We stayed in the nicest of their rooms and it was beautifully cozy and clean. Their standard rooms are simple and serviceable --and of course you would get the same great service that we received with the best room. All of the staff offer wonderful service in a quiet, friendly, unobtrusive manner. It was a breath of fresh air from the often overdone and annoying helpfullness that many tourist places have.
We enjoyed the 3 night package with tours and dinner and 60 minute massage. the 10-12 dish dinner was amazing. The massage was the best we have had in Indonesia. They provided a very private room for the couples massage and it had a lovely attached bathroom where you can have a rose petal bath if you purchase the 2 hr massage/body scrub, which is absolutely worth every penny!
This is a perfect base from which to see Borobudur and Parambanan and Solo. But since Rumah Mertua is about a 20 minute taxi ride to the city center, I would recommend staying several nights at Rumah Mertua and then a couple of nights downtown in Jogja where you can sample the shopping markets, water palace, and restaurants.

Room Tip: Rumah Mertua has four rooms facing the pool area and these are the nicest rooms.

“Only for Honeymooners”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

Booked deluxe room for 5 nights, but only stayed there for 2 nights. Didn't mind with the location since we rented car, but had some problems:
- breakfast, they don't provide buffet breakfast, we need to choose from breakfast menu. They do provide fruits and snacks, but limited to the number of family member.
- mattress is not comfortable (too hard for me)
- be careful when you want to check out earlier, you will need to inform them at least one day before if you want to check out the next day, otherwise, you need to pay a penalty fee, as much as cost for one night, if you inform them on the same day you will leave.
- swimming pool is flat, 1.5 meters deep. It's difficult for my daughter who wanted to play in the pool and is only 1.40 meter tall

Other than that, everything's OK. I especially liked their prompt response when I made booking via email with them.

Last but not least, I will only recommend this hotel for honeymooners... :)
