“Great experience - relaxed vibe”

One of the best experiences I've had in the Philippines. I came here with colleagues two weeks ago to dive and liked it so much I came back two weeks later to get my PADi certification. Oying, my instructor was great, the food was good, the rooms comfortable, and the bar was nice. i got in 6 dives in 3 days, and I'm going back in a month to get my next certification.

“Will be back, again and again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2010

This was my third trip to LLBC and the best. I finally did my open water dive certificate and passed thanks to our instructor Frank. For serious divers the facility has everything you need.
The food is great and the Gecko bar a great place to unwind after a serious day of diving and relaxing!
The staff are very attentive and you never wait long to be served. Sabang is a short walk for anything you need. There is a great bottleshop that sells good wine from across the world, right across from Western Union.
Island hopping is easy and cheap using any of the banca boats available.

“Great place to stay for some fantastic diving - i'd definitely go back”

Over all i really enjoyed my stay at La Laguna Beach Club; rooms fairly priced and clean, service was good and prompt and food was delicious. The bay where the resort is based has a really relaxed and chilled vibe, a lot less hectic than the bays round the corner. Worth noting that you can't really swim in the sea as there are bancas coming and going all the time but if you really want to bring reef shoes as it isn't a sandy bottom and the rocks are quite sharp. I wouldn't choose a beach front room again tho as despite having your own little balcony there were loads of people wandering around and we felt the need to lock it even if we were just popping away for a second. The pool is also tiny and there are only about 5 deck chairs so if you wanted diving break to sunbathe or chill there was never space to relax. The beach isn't a fantastic option to do this either sadly as the sellers are incessant. It would be nice if they had a slightly roped off part of the beach with loungers to lie on where you weren't constantly approached as there have been in other places i've visited.

If you are going for the diving i would really recommend you purchase a diving computer. As a fairly new diver i didn't have one and was a bit concerned about depths / bottom times, limits and number of dives - these all go off the charts you are taught to use in the Open Water but those with computers didn't bat an eyelid as they had computers to regulate them. The diving is absolutely spectacular. Get your Advanced Open Water before going or whilst you are there. The MV Alma Jane wreck was my favourite dive. Worth having your own safety sausage as we got separated from a diver in our group in rough water and only found him when he inflated his own one. I would totally go back again and hope one day i do!

“Resort for diving,all kind!”

Puerto Galera is a beautiful place for diving, and every diving site are very close to beach.Approximately 5 minutes you can reach the wreck diving site, and even shark cave.
La laguna located on Big lalaguna beach, which has a small area for snorkeling, all the rest are occupied with incoming and outgoing boats. But its sure that you will find no time for snorkelling when so many diving sites around you. Sabang beach already degrated into rocky sand and is polluted by dirty water drain from several inns.Feels sad about it.
La laguna has a group of great diving instructors, their local philippine instructors are very familiar with PG underwater world can show you great scenes. And their equipements are well maintened.
Rooms, pretty fine and clean for low budget accommondation.
Food, this can not be a problem if you dont have high expectation.
Service, thats okay. They work in leisure mood, and once was so slow that I have to skip lunch for next dive, that was quite tough. Besides that, they smile a lot and thats what you need for vacation.

  • Liked — nice view of the ocean and cliffs and lovely fishes 5 meters from beach into the water
  • Disliked — theres a noisy bar very close to rooms

“Trip review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2008

Stayed there first week of Dec just before the peak period.

My dive buddy and I were the only 2 guests in the resort for 5 days.

For PG the resort I would say is above average but compared to many business hotel's I've stayed at I would give it a 3-4 star rating. keep that in your mind and your expectations will be fine when you arrive.

The staff are friendly - it is a relaxed level of island service. They are not all outwardly friendly.

When we were there they were fixing their swimming pool. so we got a nice little wake up reminder every morning around 7am ( folks chipping away the cement with a local chisel and hammer).

The rooms have aircon, safe, cable tv and unlimited hot water. the rest is well basic. linen only changed once on the trip. bring repellent if mosquitoes like you. We felt VERY SAFE but still put things away.

There is a very large food menu but the quality I would say is average/good. Which is standard for the entire island. if you are a food buff go somewhere else this place is for diving.

I stayed in room 112, friend in room 111. these are older, they do have a newer block with a family room. If you are there with someone who wants something nicer id suggest upgrading.

Excellent for diving, the dive shop is very well equipped especially for tech divers. see my diving report here: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/philippine-paradise-divers/263431-puerto-galera-dec-2-2008-dive-report.html

it is a few coves away from Sabang (15-20 min walk), which is the main town. this is a good thing if you have a family (can get noisy around there) Not so good if you want to hit the bars every night.

A tip I would give you is that the vendors on the beach - the ones selling you massages, dvd's sunglasses etc. Could very well be your boatman or waiter the next day. It's a small island so it pays to be nice.

Would I go back again? yes perhaps with a group so we can really take over the resort. I'd also stay in the newer block next time.

  • Liked — the dive centre
  • Disliked — We were the only guest - the manager or owners didnt even come to say hello
