This is a really special hotel.
We spent the first two nights of our honeymoon here, staying in a one bedroom garden villa, in January 2012. It was just what we needed after a stressful few months at work, planning and then having our wedding, and then stepping off a 12 hour flight from Europe.
Every aspect of the service we received in this hotel was flawless. One of their "personal assistant" team contacted me a few days before we left the UK to check our flight details, and ensured our room was ready when we arrived. They also gave us a complimentary late checkout (as our onwards flight to Australia was in the evening), which I thought was a very nice touch.
Check-in was just a breeze - they had iced tea ready for us to sip while our reservation details were confirmed (which took all of 30 seconds). Then we were escorted (on a golf buggy) to our villa, with our luggage following on another buggy.
To describe the villa as opulent, luxurious, wonderful, just doesn't do it justice. These rooms have to be seen to be believed. The villa has three large rooms (lounge, bedroom and huge bathroom), plus outdoor patio area, outdoor private plunge pool. Behind the bathroom there is also a dressing area, and outside the bathroom is an outdoor bath and outdoor shower. Since it was our honeymoon they also gave us a complimentary bottle of wine, and a handwritten note from the manager welcoming us and congratulating us on our wedding.
The room decor and furnishings were superb - see my photos for a better idea. Short of listing literally every fitting and feature, highlights included the multitude of towels; comfortable seats everywhere; mood lighting; complimentary (non-alcoholic) minibar, tea/coffee, free wifi, his and hers flip flops and slippers, two huge TVs, BOSE sound system, electronic blinds and curtains, the bedside control panel for aircon/curtains/etc, and of course the plunge pool and the outdoor shower. And the amazingly soft seat in the bathroom. And the multitude of high quality toiletries. And many other things too! They have considered virtually everything, providing amenities ranging from a writing kit (complete with pencil and sharpener if you'd rather not use the pens) to mosquito repellent (not that we needed to use it).
Moving from the room to the hotel itself, a few other points are worth noting. The library (which is everything you'd expect a modern, colonial style library to be, and a lot more) has complimentary tea/coffee/soft drinks and sweets available all day and night, and a complimentary high tea served every afternoon for a few hours. Most times we visited the library it was empty (bliss!) though one afternoon tea was quite busy. The personal assistants are based here too; we found them extremely enthusiastic and helpful, organising dinner at The Knolls restaurant one evening and a spa visit too. When we next bumped into them around the hotel they would enquire about how we'd enjoyed our spa visit / meal etc (without prompting or referring to any paperwork) - I thought that was really outstanding service.
The hotel grounds are immaculately kept, and they have some resident peacocks too, who we met a few times in the gardens (though we kept a distance!). We didn't use the main swimming pools, though they looked great and really inviting, as did the sun loungers around the pool areas.
We visited the Auriga Spa one day, and that in itself is a good reason to come to this hotel - really peaceful, relaxing and luxurious. The horizontal/vertical shower, and the thermal shower experience were amazing, not to mention our couples massage! We ate in The Knolls restaurant and were impressed with it too, especially with the prices - it's certainly not "fast food" prices, but was quite a bit less than we'd pay for a similar quality meal in Europe or North America.
If you do treat yourself to a stay here, don't plan on leaving the hotel to explore Sentosa or Singapore though, as you won't want to leave! (Incidentally the hotel cost includes complimentary entry to Sentosa Island; you usually need to pay to enter Sentosa from Singapore.) Overall this is a superb hotel, and is very highly recommended if you are in Singapore. It thoroughly deserves its official 5 star rating. We enjoy exploring new places and rarely visit the same hotel twice, but with Capella Singapore I'd make an exception.
Room Tip: One bedroom villas are well worth the cost - treat yourself!
