We stayed here one night over the last weekend, as a 'staycation' from Singapore Island.

The good:

The setting is beautiful, we found many pools including some that were very well hidden and away from the hussle and bustle of the harbour. The view from the rooftop adults-only pool was spectacular looking across the Singapore strait toward the sunset.

We ate at the thai restaurant and the service was outstanding, along with the food. Highly recommended.

Check-in and check-out seemed efficient, and the staff were always friendly.

The bad:

We'd booked a double bed, but when we arrived (which wasn't late) were told there were only two singles available. These had been pushed together, but were still two separate beds with two separate sets of sheets - maybe not as romantic as we'd hoped.

A number of issues with the room including something wrong with the lamp and the cold water tap in the bath didn't work. Having a maintenance guy visiting to fix things also does away with the romantic vibes!

Maybe our fault for forgetting to put the do not disturb on, but getting a knock on the door 9.30 from housekeeping is a bit rough on a Sunday morning when all we wanted to do was sleep in.

Honest mistake but the guy at check-out accidentially put our card through for $100 more than was due.

Overall, its a very well thought out hotel in a beaufiful setting, but a number of little things combined led me to think this is closer to a four star.

Amara Sanctuary has a special place in my heart. Amara Hotel (Tanjong Pagar area) was the place where I had my wedding dinner held on 23 Dec 1995, some 16 years ago! Sanctuary happens to be the place at my home church, which I have been faitthful member since 1994. So when I stepped in Amara Sanctuary in Nov 2011, memories of old flooded my mind.. how I survive 16 yrs of marriage, and encouraged by GOD in the 4 doors of my church sanctuary, and our 10th wedding anniversary with a charity twist on 17 Dec 2005, some 6 years ago! This is certainly a place where you can find peace, peace that surpasses ALL understanding, peace where the busyness of daily affairs can never give you, and the SPACE that is very much needed for tired souls like myself! This is a retreat where I found myself.. I, me and myself! In the midst of all, I found GOD!

Stayed here for business in Singapore. First impressions were ok, nice lobby area and very modern building. However, when I arrived at 7pm, only one person at reception, and no one else around - it felt a little soulless in honesty.
Room was lovely - large bed, gorgeous bathroom. Really can not fault the room.
Ate at the restaurant for breakfast ( buffet, had all the usual stuff) and dinner. In honesty, I was disappointed with the fare at Shutters restaurant. I had 'fish and chips' which was ok, but very dry, but again, it just seemed soulless.
In summary, the hotel suited a need, but it is not somewhere I would travel for leisure purposes. I can't complain about the service but it was far from inviting or warm.

Being my gf's 1st trip to Singapore, there were several places in Singapore that she has got to visit. Sentosa was one of those places!

We checked into the Amara on Jan30,2012 and got a nice little tour of the Amara by ine of the concierge guys. We stayed in the garden suite and the space/layout of the room was fabulous! Nice therapeutic aroma was evident in the room and a great outdoor jacuzzi was at a sort of backyard of our suite.

Palawan beach is just 5mins walk away. And this being a Monday, it is a wonderful getaway place to be. Dinner was available in the food court at the beach. Quality is acceptable.

Everything about Amara was great except for the time when we went to bed. As we were turning in for the night, there was a distinctive bad odour emitting from our bed sheets and pillow cases!! Sleep was scarse that night.

Breakfast quality was pretty acceptable. Due to our sleep being minimal the last night, we had breakfast pretty late but the staff allowed us in anyway. Had a short swim at the infinity pool after breakfast and checked out.

All in all, a great great experience MINUS the sheets and would recomend it to everybody. BUT! Do change the stinking sheets if you think it is going to hinder your good night's rest!
