I really wanted to like this resort. There are times when a hotel gives a "wow" feeling the moment I check myself in and then there are those that leave me with a question mark about the staying experience. I stayed for one night on a off-peak Monday in a Deluxe room. For some reason (and no doubt I did not ask for a change since it was only for one night), I was given the corner-most room on the 4th floor right across the fire escape exit door.
On first impression, the room felt tranquil, looked spacious and had a slight view of the ocean, which was nice. However, I noticed that the maintenance of the room was not that great. The bedsheets had slight yellow stains, the bathroom scale was not working and the connecting bathroom blinds were drawn in a lop-sided manner. Unfortunately, the wear and tear of the bathroom tiles and other room fittings were also pretty evident. To be fair, I am not expecting a perfect 10 for a room, but having visited several other hotels of a similar grade, it is clear when a hotel makes an effort to upkeep their rooms to certain high standards or when they are simply ensuring that the rooms get cleaned. Another bugbear is the room door is not soundproof, which meant that each time a guest entered or left their rooms, loud slams can be heard from within the room at night. I was unable to locate wireless Internet connectivity in the guest room.
On the bright side, the infinity adults-only pool and jacuzzi was great for a day of relaxing and I enjoyed the peaceful experience during the off-peak hours. The reception, pool service and the doormen were always friendly and competent. There is also a regular complimentary shuttle service to the Resorts World entertainment area and 2 pretty good but slightly pricey restaurants (Braise and Thanying) within walking distance of the hotel.
If the resort improves the general maintenance of their rooms and surrounds and keep tabs on the smaller details of a guest stay, I'm pretty sure the experience will be much more memorable for me in the future.
