We were most delighted with the Amaru. It's convenient walking to many Cusco sites including the city centre. Rooms were clean and breakfast satisfactory.... Staff were most accommodating with our questions. We had a second floor room (for 3) with balcony. Being slightly up the hill, the views overlooking the rooftops is charming. Moreover, we highly recommend walking the neighborhood up the hill opposite city centre. Much to experience with various neighborhood squares. Also, healthy hike that direction to the Cusco ruins. Among our highly recommended:
the Cusco market, the free walking tours, among the other obvious.

Room tip: Wifi is iffy.

I stayed here 3 nights, one night before I left for my trip to Machu Pichu and 2 nights after returning. It has a lovely view of Cusco as well as very peaceful garden most of the rooms open up to. The breakfast was very good in the morning and hotel staff were very helpful for the most part. As other travelers have mentioned, the only slight inconvenience is that the internet is okay in public areas, but it was very hit or miss in my room (I was in 2 different rooms too, one before Machu Pichu and a different on returning- the internet was spotty at best in both and was slightly inconvenient when trying to plan and look up stuff after a long trip or day of sight seeing). I would also caution to ask about the layout of your room. The room I had before I left for Machu Pichu had an upstairs bathroom that required climbing a latter to get to. This wasn't a big deal to me and I thought sort of added to the charm of the room, but if you get up a lot in the night to use the bathroom, kids, etc, just a tip you might want to inquire about. Otherwise, charming hotel, reasonably priced, always had hot water, and free airport pick up. I would definitely stay here again and would have no hesitation in booking.

We used the Amaru to book our trip to Machu from our living room in Canada. Everything went smoothly including our accomodations in Machu and our guide who was very knowledgeable. We didn't even pay in full until after all our excursions. The front desk is covered 24/7 and they offer taxi service to and from the airport. The breakfast is wholesome if predictable.

Room tip: Wi fi was spotty

In advance of hiking the Inca Trail, you should always arrive in Cusco a few days in advance to acclimate to the elevation. Some friends and I stayed here to do just that and it was a most excellent hotel! Plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops around the hotel and just three blocks off Plaza de Armas. The rooms are quite nice, there is an elegant courtyard to sit and sip tea, read, or enjoy the sunshine. I greatly enjoyed my stay at this hotel and even more so enjoyed my hike on the the Inca trail.

Room tip: Just avoid a room facing west. The rising sun can be a bit brutal.

We stayed at this lovely hotel for two nights before and two nights after our Salkantay hike. Our group was in 3 rooms, and everyone was happy. The staff is EXTREMELY helpful. The rooms are quiet and the beds are comfortable. The front desk is covered 24/7 and they offer taxi service to and from the airport. The showers are hot and breakfast is served until 10. The wifi is crappy in the rooms, but it works in the courtyards.
