“Great value!”

We stayed at Pension Alemana for 4 nights. We had a nice, clean room on the 3rd floor with a small balcony and great views (#302).

The breakfast is great (coffee, teas, juice, rolls, jam, eggs to order, granola, yogurt).

The location is beautiful - the only problem is the walk back up the hill at night (if you're not used to the elevation ;-))

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor have a great view

“Couldn't have been more satisfied”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We spent a total of 7 nights at the Pension Alemana, three before heading to Macchu Picchu and four after we got back. We wanted a place in San Blas because it's quiet and has great views of the city and surrounding mountains.
The Pension atmosphere is relaxed, the staff is friendly and the facility impeccably clean. We were made to feel at home in every way. They laundry service is timely and inexpensive and they even stored our gear for four days while we were out traveling.
Could not be happier with the whole experience.
Thank you Peter & staff. #1 in our book.
Sincerely, Chris & Cinzia Fratini

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have the best view of the city

“Hostal Alemana is the place to go!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I have been meaning to write this for a while and truly feel this hotel deserves a review. I travelled to Pension Alemana in August of 2010 and when we arrived at the hotel my husband and I were pleasantly surprised with the warm welcome we received from the receptionist. We stayed in Cusco a couple of days before our trek to Machu Picchu as many people do. The room during the first part of our stay was part of the new reservation and was very clean and included all the comforts of home. Although we were travelling as a couple 2 single beds were the only option at this time (a bit of a hassle but no big deal). Being brand new, the furniture, bedding and towels were very clean and comfortable enough. The view from our room was beautiful overlooking the countryside Cusco. Just wonderful!

Location

The location of the hotel is about a five minute cab ride to the centre square. It is located on a cobblestone alley/street and can be quite dark at night so take normal precautions when walking. Just a word of warning, cab drivers are crazy driving through these streets. I saw several people almost being hit and soon realized this is just the way it is. Definitely stick to the thin raised sidewalks and watch for cars. A courtyard is located in the centre of the hotel offering a peaceful area to sit or read a book.

Breakfast

Breakfast was of good quality including fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs and bread. They also provided coco leaves to make tea (a definite must if you are suffering from altitude sickness). The quality of food and friendly service during breakfast was a definite selling point of this hotel and for the price can't be beat.

Service and Internet

If you want to use the hotel internet be prepared to wait if it is during busy season. At the time there was only one computer. It is located upstairs in the older part of the building. Another great thing about this hotel is they will hold your bags while you are on your trek. I felt this service was an excellent option and eliminated the worry about where to store your additional luggage.

Return Stay

Upon are return from our trek we were given a different room in the older part of the building. Although it was okay it is quite a difference when comparing it to our initial stay in the newer part of the hotel. It was very tired and definitely in need of some renovating. I'm not fussy but when you come back from a long trek and have expectations from your prior stay just 4 days earlier it is a bit disappointing to say the least. I would definitely request a room in the newer part of the building both before and after your trek as it makes for a completely different experience.

Overall, I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cusco. Its convenient location, wonderful service, delicious breakfast and reasonable price make this a great choice. Hostal Alemana is the place to go!!

Room Tip: Request a room in the the new addition.

“Superb affordable accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We spent 5 nights here during December and simply cannot fault the accommodation. The price was very affordable, the breakfasts were scrumptious and the service was excellent. Situated in a nice part of Cusco reasonably close to the town centre. this is a well managed establishment with clean rooms, good bedding, clean bathrooms, pretty garden and good views of the terracotta roof tiles from the second floor. Loved it.

Room Tip: Go for second floor to enjoy the views.
