“Never Again - Mold on the walls and stolen property”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

If you have a choice to see a really cute city do it without staying in this hotel. You enter a nice lobby just to go into a trap. Rooms are dusty, smelling of smoke, mold in 2 of the 4 rooms we have been in. Not 3 stars even in Bulgarian standard.
In addition we had stolen property from one of the rooms, when confronting the staff, we were introduced to the hotel manager who, like her hotel, was a member of Bulgaria in the 70's - no English, no hand-shake, no introduction, talking only through a translator and not willing to support - If you want a taste of old Soviet Bulgaria meet the staff of Novotel Plovdiv.
The hotel does NOT support families, not even one room (or connecting rooms) can accommodate 2 parents and 2 kids, NO SAFE. No whiled beds can be brought in. We chose it because of the swimming pool - it was closed for renovation in pick summer season.
We traveled all over Bulgaria (you can read other reviews from this trip), chose hotels via tripadvisor and recommendation - this was by far not a place to stay in. If you must stay in this hotel - take good care of your goods and avoid the manger. As long as she is still in control, the hotel will remain in Soviet Bulgaria of the 70's - and not the positive part of it.

“Gorgeous lobby - old, broken down rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

If you have a choice, don't stay here. The location is good, the lobby very fancy, but the rooms are awful. Bright orange shaggy bed coverings and upholstered stools in the rooms - maybe from the '70's? Very uncomfortable beds that kept moving to the side every time I got up. Maybe they were on wheels, but i don't see why. The bathroom was the most ridiculous I have ever seen. NO shower curtain at all, so of course the entire bathroom got soaked when we showered, and the sink faucet was almost coming out of the sink.
I don't know if this is the only air conditioned 5 star hotel in Plovdiv, but I won't be going back there.

“Old town was lovely”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2011

This hotel was well located to explore the old town, we were only there for one night and I did not choose the hotel. You do not have a hugh choice of hotels in Plovdiv and if you have stayed in a Novotel you will understand when I say it is a typical Novotel. Most things were fine, my only complaint with our room would be the hair dryer, it is one of the stuck on the wall with not a lot of room to move and not a lot of power.
The foyer was very nice and breakfast quite good and all the staff I came into contact with were very good.

“Far from 5* hotel - impressive ground floor, tired looking rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2011

We stayed in this hotel for 8 nights with our young children (5 & 1 y.o.). One of the main reasons for choosing it was the indoor swimming pool. We were very disappointed to find out that guests of the hotel are charged at 12 lev per person per day including our 5 year old child and also 10 lev for our baby!!! Unbelievable!!! The service there was terrible, dirty showers - even one of the staff there warn us not to use it for the kids (very slippery too), the swimming pool was just ok, the kids pool was also quite dirty but the temperature was perfect. The room was far from a 5* one - very old looking, the window didn't shut, the shower was very weak and the carpet very dirty and although was a non smoking room you could still smell smoke. The breakfast was ok - nothing special what so ever...Needless to say we will never choose this hotel again. Just wondering how on earth they got their 5* rating??? This is very average 3* hotel and the only part which is close to 5* is the ground floor which wasn't much use to us anyway.

“quite o.k.”

I have been there the 10th time and cannot complain about it. The only things which has to be improved at short notice are the mattress. They are really bad. Please be careful when driving out of the parking garage, the cards are often not working when they are cleared at the reception desk. The steam sauna is a bit dirty.
