Our Cambodian trip had not started well, with the taxi journey from Hell from the airport (which concluded with the driver locking us in the car until we had heard all of his pleas for employment); luckily we were rescued by the wonderful staff at the Golden Banana. We were greeted with some massive smiles, a lovely cold drink and towel and a charming courtyard area to relax in. A previous reviewer mentioned that ‘while it is "gay friendly", I think just ‘friendly’ would be a better description’ and I wholeheartedly agree. The temple tours booked were stress free (no hard sell here!) and our tuk tuk driver was charming and ready with both a smile and assistance.

The Golden Banana is located down a small alley, just off a residential (and therefore there are a few potholes) road, but walking distance to everything you could possibly need. If the walking does get too much (and after a few days of temples it may be) a tuk tuk is only a few dollars to the centre of town. The walk home never felt unsafe and it means you are just outside of all the noise of party central.

The rooms were rustic and charming, but spacious, well maintained and clean. I never received a single mozzie bite here, which to me is a minor miracle. I too loved the shampoo and shower gel pots and the shower was large and although heated by solar, never cold. Our room was duplex with some steep stairs but we are both able bodied. The upstairs and balcony area was a real treat – cool, quiet and comfortable, with a lovely view of the courtyard area. My top tip would be to look in guest services book – I loved the humour.

In conclusion, the room was lovely, the location brilliant, but the staff are the cherry on the top. They really make this place special. Nothing is too much trouble for them, their English is excellent and they all had a sixth sense about when you needed something or when you were happy to just be left alone to relax. That’s a hard skill to master! I really felt that they take pride in what they do. I wish I could be back there now!

Siem Reap is full of hotels and it's overwhelming to choose. My boyfriend and I booked the Golden Banana superior just two days before arriving. We could not have been more pleased. The design of the rooms and common areas was hip and functional. The service, always with a smile. Best of all, it was incredibly quiet, off the main drag but within walking distance of everything (other than the Angkor Wat complex). I would stay here again and highly recommend.

Golden banana has a B&B,hotel and a resort like section, i was at the resort in a clean comfortable room facing the swimming pool, it is quite,very relaxing,the staffs are all amazing,smiling,always ready to help,even when you wait at the reception they sit with you and chat,breakfast are minimal but good,the check out is rapid and they even check your room to see if you forget something before you leave wow! I will go there again for sure! Dont get scare by the location it is in a back of an alley but it is better like this, more quite from the street!

We were traveling with 3 other couples and had asked for ground floor rooms for the two senior couples in our group but my husband and I were not so lucky. The stairs to our room were very steep and in the dark a bit intimidating. I did get used to them by our last of sixth nights. The great thing was that the hotel staff carried our bags to our room and down again without our asking. My 19 year old son didn't find the stairs a challenge but he had youth on his side. The room itself was very nice, on the larger side for hotel rooms. There is a safe which is nice to have when leaving valuables in your room. The shower is large and has a very nice rain shower facet. Their is a nice size balcony with a lovely stone bathtub and shower on it. This was a real treat and made me forget all about the stairs.
The hotel is a short walk to the night market and there are always tuk tuks outside the hotel waiting to take you here you want to go. The pool was well cared for and clean, breakfast choices were good and tasty. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and I would stay here again...maybe on the ground floor next time!
