We arrived after a gruelling 13 hour journey from the beach resort of Sihanoukville where we'd stayed in a charming but 'basic' beach bungalow and I don't think I've ever been so happy as to open the door of our room and discover cool air, a crisply made up bed, soothing decor, a fabulous large head shower with lovely bath products, a nice sized balcony overlooking the pool with a stone bathtub on it! It was a haven of tranquility, bliss! The next morning we explored this small but perfectly formed 'resort' - there is a tasteful open plan eating area around the pool where breakfast was delicious and individually prepared to what we required - fresh juice and fruit, eggs prepared fried, poached, boiled etc. The pool was lovely, very clean and not busy at all when we were there - there are also nice seating areas around where you can get out of the sun and read in the shade. The staff were eager to help but not 'in your face' and as others have said it is gay friendly but we didn't feel unusual not being gay as there are a mix of families, gay couples and heterosexual couples here. We used the hotels assistance to book the all important trip to Angkor Watt and they arranged a brilliant tuk tuk driver who was very knowledgeable and then again to book a boat to Battambang when we left. There is a very short walk into the main streets of Siem Reap and all the bars and restaurants, yes the hotel is down a dark street but I never felt threatened or nervous so would not let this put you off at all! It's over a year since we visited Cambodia and we are planning our next trip away, I wouldn't rule out revisiting the Golden Banana as we had a wonderful stay here.
