“Do Not Stay Here”

I stayed at Ombrelle and Kimono for two weeks. The rooms are okay, but overpriced. First I was put in the large room which was fine, I was then moved to a smaller room which smelt like sewerage, had no hot water and fluorescent lighting, forgs and cockroaches.

When I spoke to the lady who runs the hotel regarding my concerns, she was so rude and completely dismissed my requests. I was left with cold water for a week and a room that smelt of sewredge (although she did provide a lemongrass oil burner which slightly helped for the fist day or two) and a toilet that did not flush.

I was asked to pay for 2 weeks up front, then the woman tried to tell me I had to leave as my 2 weeks were up when in fact i had another 2 days remaining, she had clearly written a fake receipt with a 'new date' stating i arrived on the 22nd when in fact i arrived on the 24th.

There are no fridges in the small rooms so I had to keep my fruit etc in the communal fridge which was conveniently locked all the time. I would also come home and find my fruit eaten by her and her family.

The 'free' Breakfast is shocking with just toasted baguette and jam. No fruit, no eggs etc without extra costs involved.

There was absolutely no hospitality or friendliness here. The woman's husband was quiet nice however after the first few days all the proceedings were left to her. I have never met such a rude person in my life, i felt very uncomfortable there.

Please don't make the mistake I did, there are so many beautiful places to stay in Siem Reap, with beautiful hospitable people and nice rooms. DONT STAY HERE!

What can I answer to this young girl?
She stayed at the hotel for 2 weeks, we made a big discount: 20$ per night because she told us she was working for a NGO.
She was for some days in a suite and then in a room. Yes, she had a probrem in the bathroom, but she didn't want to move in another room.
She's the first client complaining about a bad smell, as we are in Cambodia it can happen that a little frog enters the room...
There was hotwater all the time, I guess she turned the button the wrong way...
We always get compliments about our breakfast, the jams are homemade. As she had a very good discount for her room, we had to charge her eggs and bacon.
The lady who's she's talking about is French, she doesn't speak a English, maybe that's why she thought she was rude but how can she tell that she made a fake receipt?
The fridge is locked but with the key on the padlock...
She never asked to put her things in the fridge, maybe some of our clients couldn't make the difference between our fruits or her fruits. And we stay in Cambodia for 13 years,we adopt beautiful girl, and we have a lot of friends now,he like also Ombrelle & Kimono.best regards

“comfortable boutique hotel with nice artistic decoration”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

We thought the hotel was very beautiful & managed to get a look at 2 of the 5 rooms. They were both very beautiful & roomy & the feel of the rooms could bring you back 100 years in time (in a good way). We ended up in the (very) large room by the entrance which was fairly quiet. The gentle clinking of the seashells used to make the shower curtain cleverly disguised what little of the street noise we could hear. In addition, there were also i-pod docking stations and a nice TV etc to somehow, but we slept well without using these. Our only complaint would be that the water dried up for about an hour on 2 occasions and that it might be time for the hotel to invest in a drainage system that allows toilet paper in the toilet (our room anyway).. no big worry though
We received a more than fair price for a 9pm late check-out. To respond to comments from english-speaking guests, I can confirm that the owner is uncomfortable with english, but when I switched sometimes to high school french after a little while, we managed to get through the conversations fairly amiably. A lot of pamphlets & information about the are is visible in her office which is open half the time & there were more books on the area in the library area. The restaurant wasn't open the night we checked, but at checkout, the owner didn't charge extra for the bacon & eggs we had with breakfast. There were just a couple mosquitos in the room, but that's good for Asia and I don't think I was bitten during our stay. The pool was very, very nice after each long day & without mosquitos in the sunny area surrounding, but they were waiting in the library area on the deck.

“Expensive for what you get”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2010

Spend a few days there during my trip to Angkor wat transfer from the excellent La Maison D'Angkor which was fully booked. Very small property downtown. They are closed a very noisy restaurant next door so not great if you want to relax on the evening at the swimming pool. Rooms are very original with a mix of different kind of decoration. Door does not lock properly and no safety box to keep your passeport and other valuables. Lots of TV channels, air co working well. Free Internet did not work during all our stay. Nothing has been done to fix it. Answer of the Management (when someone was there...) was to go down town and look after a Internet coffee! Very poor service almost not existent. Breakfast tasting good but limited to only bread baguette, jam and coffee/tea. It was included in the rate. if you want to eat eggs with beacon they charge you 1.5US ! We try to eat at their restaurant twice but closed at 9pm so we went somewhere else. They forget to call our taxi to send us at the airport uppon departure as we requested and reminded several time since arrival and they did not seem to care about it. Positive thing was the friend of the Manager quiet nice and which could provide some information about the area. Management left 2 min after our arrival and remind us to pay on evening before departure because not sure to be present on the morning. If you pay by credit card they charge you extra 3%. We had the feeling to stay inside a rental home without any service at all... We were looking for the Ombrelle and Kimono??? but found nice elephants in their outside rest area. It does not worth at all the 80 US per night. We will not come back .

“Stay away from this hotel, a waste of time and money”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2010

Stay away from this hotel. We flew in from Thailand having stayed at good hotels in both Bangkok and Hua Hin where the service and facilities were excellent. On arrival at Siem Reap airport nobody was there to meet us although I had emailed the hotel and they had confirmed the airport transfer (which were included in the room rate). We had to take a taxi and when we arrived at the hotel the owner seemed unable or unwilling to speak english. She was quite rude and would speak only french. She gave no explanation as to why no one had come to meet us as agreed. We had booked and paid for the suite for four nights but were shown to a standard room. We were told that someone had stayed another day and was in the suite but we told her that was unacceptable as we had prepaid for the suite. She took us to the room we had booked and moved that person to another room. The suite was a good size with a separate bathroom but it was so dim that we could hardly see. There was very little natural daylight and the lighting in the room was very bad. There was no fridge, no tea or coffee making facilities and the air conditioning had a mind of its own and was very complicated with no instructions. Thew was also no safe in the room which meant we had to leave our passports, travel documents and money in the reception safe. This was a real nuisance as the reception was not always manned which made it difficult to get access to the safe. We spotted an aerosol of mosquito repellent in the room but there were no mosquito nets. Despite spraying the room and covering myself with repellent I was bitten seven times in one evening. I had already been in Thailand for 10 days and had not been bitten once. The large gap above and below the door obviously let the mosquitoes in.
To top it all there was heavy construction work taking place right next door as a restaurant was being built. We were woken up at 7am on Sunday morning and the noise continued throught the day making it impossible to relax. We checked out and moved to another hotel immediately, one night there was quite enough.
To sum up. the Ombrelle & Kimono is all style over substance. Too much time has been spent on arranging tired artefacts and not enough attention has been spent on the basic requirements. It is pretty in a boho kind of way but it does not function as a hotel. The owners refusal to speak english is ridiculous for somene working in the hotel business. We checked into the hotel across the road which was staffed entirely by Cambodians who all spoke perfect english and immediately made us feel very welcome. As this was the last leg of our journey we did not want it spoiled by a bad hotel so decided it was worth spending a few dollars more elsewhere for Cambodian comfort and hospitality.
This hotel really needs to learn that pretty pictures on a website are not enough and that manners and people come first.

“Charming but lack of hospitality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2010

It was our first visit to Siem Reap. We traveled with 2 small kids and stayed in 2 out of 5 rooms at Ombrelle et kimono last summer.
The first impression of the place was really - wow that's one of the nicest boutique hotels we'd ever stayed! I have to agree the design & style of the house is exquisite, every room is different and I have to acknowledge the owners attention to every little detail. But that is just about it.
I cannot understand the owner's and her staff's lack of interest in their guests and not at all readiness to help with some information (knowledge) about the beautiful places around. Maybe this is because of the language barrier - the owner refused to speak anything but French with us. As already mentioned, staff are rather reserved and not really ready to talk, breakfast is very basic, the beds are hard and no other amenties in the room that one would expect from a place of such a calibre.

Overall, a very nice old-style house, very nice decor but a lack of freindly atmosphere.
