I am a jaded traveler who is rarely fully impressed by a hotel, and I was completely, fully impressed with this one. From the moment one walks in to see smiling doormen cheerfully greeting you with a chilled moist towel, to the unique design of the hotel lobby, to the perfect lotus buds adorning the check-in area and on the tables of the Artist Lounge, one gets the feeling that this is an unique hotel. The lounge area is especially worthy of mention. Decorated in black and white, with comfortable daybeds in the middle and sofas around the center area, the place is already impressive enough. Add in an exhibit of a Madagascar-born Cambodian designer's dresses and modern interior design, the place is simply a sublime combination of chic and Khmer accents. We enjoyed sumptuous afternoon tea sets amidst extremely friendly service (for $10 a person!), and the restaurant, with large daybeds suspended from ropes that act as swings, is wonderful beyond words. In short, Hotel de la Paix is the type of place that offers luxury and impeccable service in perfectly relaxing surroundings, making one feel at once cocooned in a sophisticated world removed from the din of the Siem Reap streets but also in touch with the Khmer environment. It was simply a wonderful experience.
