“Five-star staff in a budget hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2012

Good location, close to entertainment and markets, but sufficiently away from Pub St to be fairly quiet. The staff are friendly and very helpful, with good English. Good restaurant at the hotel, with a mix of local and international food choices. The hotel has arrangements with tuktuk drivers which ensure you get a good deal on trips to the temples or just around town. Good bathroom facilities. Travelling solo, I took the cheapest budget option, and this was more than adequate. Seven per cent of profits at this hotel go to Cambodian charities.

“'Great for a first time visit!'”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2012

Our daughter organised a package deal at Villa Siem Reap which included a guide and a tuktuk driver as well as many other extras including a wonderful aromatherapy massage. The young staff were extremely welcoming and friendly and helped to make our stay particularly enjoyable. The guide and driver were fantastic and took us to many of the temples as well as lots of other places to experience the Cambodian culture. The room was very big and basic and not particularly cosy but had all we needed and always very clean. We had drinks and dined in a lovely outdoor setting and even vegemite and peanut butter were on the breakfast menu!

“Absolutely wonderful experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Having read all the good reviews on Tripadvisor beforehand, I was expecting a great stay--and the Villa definitely delivered that, and more! Staff were very friendly and accomodating, welcoming us with a pair of extremely tasty beverages, and helping us with everything from bus tickets and pickup, to arranging tickets and transport to/from an Apsara dancing show. We booked a guide and driver through them, and they were both excellent. Their spa was great too: pedicure for my wife, Khmer massage for me (I fell asleep twice on the table). I really liked their policies on responsible tourism (training locals, collecting empty water bottles as building materials, etc).

We stayed in one of their cheapest rooms ($20/night)--it was simple, clean, tastefully
decorated, and had all the amenities advertised and desired. I don't think I'll find a better deal anywhere else. The restaurant (outdoor in the courtyard) had a good selection of food and drinks, and we enjoyed both of our dinners there. (Breakfast choices were somewhat limited, but what they had--essentially continental plus--was good, especially the fresh fruit.) Location was good: away from the noise of the main strip, yet a short walk from all the action. Excellent experience overall. Special kudos to the staff!

“Good place and initiative but could use a ' repaint' here and there”

The Villa is run by Australians with their heart at the right place. They promote sustainable tourism and I applaud that. The young staff is very friendly and helpfull. Some od the trips they organize benefit the people living there and part of the profit of the hotel goes to developing the region as well.
When we arrived our room was not avaiable and we were given the bungalow instead, the ' best' room, but quite dark and humid and full of musquitos without a musquito net... (and this is still a malaria environment). Fortunately the staff killed them all with sprays when we mentioned it. The next day we moved to a smaller and cheaper room in the main building, that was also much lighter and fresher and had a musquito net. Perfect!
The garden is very nice (but again a bit humid and with musquitos in the evening), with benches and pillows to lounge in. The pillows could use a good washing though.

The restaurant is quite good, we enjoyed eating there even though we did not join in the regular aussi BBQ.

Room Tip: Avoid the bungalow(s), unless you like dark and humid places...

“Purple gem in Siem Reap”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

The Villa Siem Reap is one of the few hotels that lives up to the hype created by its website—and in our case, even surpassed it. From the moment we checked in, we were charmed by the cozy and laid-back vibe of the place, not to mention the purple-painted walls all around. Front desk staff was always smiling and spoke good English. Our twin room was just one flight up the stairs and also carried the same thematic purple color (trivia: my companion told me the color purple can symbolize royalty and spiritual fulfillment), giving the place a nice touch highlighted by the odd orchid petal left on the bed spread for effect. A refreshing welcome drink soon followed which garnered some extra points. The bathroom boasted stone tiles which I feel are always better to step on than ceramic tiles when wet, not to mention prettier to look at too. Hot water was plenty, although shower pressure could have been a tad stronger. On the tech-side, WiFi never let us down. The restaurant was a cool and casual set-up with a decent enough selection from its menu offering Khmer, Asian and Western favorites (the beef with kroeung and fettucine alfredo were superb!). Cooking time was reasonable at around 15 minutes; only downside here were the annoying mosquitoes who left their mark on our arms and legs while we waited, although they did fumigate the area the following day. The Villa even had its own in-house spa, although we didn’t have the luxury of time to try it out. Location-wise, The Villa was extremely accessible with the Angkor Night Market literally around the corner and a main road offering a plethora of restaurants, bars and ATMs to choose from. At USD35/night (breakfast not included), we found it to be very competitively priced for what you get—a clean, cozy, purple gem of a hotel with good branding inside and out.
