I recently spent the weekend at the Yihao Business Hotel in Xiamen. I have stayed at this hotel before, and I always book my hotels on line as it's much more convenient than fighting through the language barrier and the possibility of being misunderstood. Even though I book on line, I always find a problem when checking into the hotel. Check out is very good. For some reason they cannot find your reservation and always find the need to hunt for it. This has happened every time~!
People are smoking everywhere in the lobby and for me this was also a downfall. I asked for a non-smoking room, but could smell others smoking next door. This is a problem in most hotels in China.
The hotel is in the downtown area, in the business section. The location is not in the tourtist area, but very central to other things in the city. The rooms are very nice and not too small, with beauitful bathrooms and great showers. The beds are much softer than most beds in China, so most foreigners will welcome this!
The only real problem I had with the hotel aside from the check-in was the dining room for breakfast. The breakfast is actually quite good for a 4 star hotel in China and they servce a great cup of coffee. My problem was the noise in the dining area. The tables are all together and you must sit and share the table with people you do not know and cannot converse with. They have a table in the dining area for cleaning the dishes before they're taken to the back to be washed. You cannot hear the people you're with if you tried. They have marble floors and it picks up on all the noise. This, for me, was very upsetting. If noise doesn't bother you, then there won't be a problem. Even my Chinese friends were annoyed!
For the single traveller, they have a wonderful "single room" for a very good price as well! So all in all, other than the problem checking in and the dining room experience, the hotel is okay.
I have stayed at this hotel many times. It has been updated about 1 year ago (from the old name Gold Coast). It is clean, comfortable the internet works well, the western breakfast is reasonable. The business center is even acceptable.
